times he walked at <strong>the</strong> back. When Rasulullaah &?% noticed this, he asked, '0<br />

Abu Bakr! Why do walk sometimes ahead <strong>of</strong> me and sometimes at <strong>the</strong> back?' He<br />

said, 'When I think that <strong>the</strong>re may be someone searching for you, I walk at <strong>the</strong><br />

back but 1 <strong>the</strong>n walk ahead whenl'think that someone may be lying in ambush.'<br />

Rasulullaah @% said, '0 Abu Bakr! If anything Has to happen, do you prefer that<br />

it happens to you ra<strong>the</strong>r than me?' 'Certainly! I swear to this by <strong>the</strong> Being Who<br />

has sent you with <strong>the</strong> truth!' replied Hadhrat Abu Bakr -."<br />

"When <strong>the</strong>y reached <strong>the</strong> cave, Hadhrat Abu Bakr %43W6 said, '0 Rasulullaah<br />

m! You stay here until I have cleaned <strong>the</strong> cave for you.' He <strong>the</strong>n entered <strong>the</strong><br />

cave and cleaned it. When he came out and remembered that he had not cleaned<br />

<strong>the</strong> holes, he said, '0 Rasulullaah @$%! You stay here until I have cleaned it.' He<br />

<strong>the</strong>n entered <strong>the</strong> cave and cleaned out <strong>the</strong> holes. He <strong>the</strong>n told Rasulullaah @@<br />

to enter and Rasulullaah @@ did. I swear by <strong>the</strong> Wing Who controls my life!<br />

That single night is better than <strong>the</strong> entire family <strong>of</strong> Umar!" (I)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr %,%&!&j Fears for Rasulullaah<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y were in <strong>the</strong> Cave<br />

Hadhrat Hasan Basri narrates that that when Rasulullaah and Hadhrat Abu<br />

Bakr !&!3&% went to <strong>the</strong> cave, <strong>the</strong> Quraysh came to search for Rasulullaah w.<br />

However, when <strong>the</strong>y saw that a spider had spun a web on <strong>the</strong> entrance, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

concluded that no one could have entered <strong>the</strong> cave. Rasulullaah was busy<br />

performing salaah and Hadhrat Abu Bakr %834@j was keeping watch when<br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr %X&&& said, "Here comes your people in search for you. By<br />

Allaah! I have no concern for myself but I fear that I should not see anything<br />

unpleasant happen to you." Rasulullaah &%& comforted him saying, "0 Abu Bakr!<br />

Do not fear for Allaah is with us." (2)<br />

Hadhrat Anas 33X3@!3 narrates that Hadhrat Abu Bakr S,Wj told him, "(When<br />

we were in <strong>the</strong>'cave) I said to Rasulullaah @%!, 'If any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m has to look to his<br />

feet, he would certainly spot us beneath his feet.' Rasulullaah @%! said, '0 Abu<br />

Bakr! What do you think <strong>of</strong> two who have Allaah as <strong>the</strong> third?"' (3)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr !&U@!&!j Speaks about His Hijrah<br />

with Rasulullaah and <strong>the</strong>ir Encounter with<br />

Suraaqa bin Maalik<br />

Hadhrat Baraa bin Aazib narrates that Hadhrat Abu Bakr 8.W once bought a<br />

saddle from (his fa<strong>the</strong>r) Hadhrat Aazib ?BG&@& for thirteen Dirhams. Hadhrat Abu<br />

Bakr @,- <strong>the</strong>n asked Hzdhrat Aazib !Bg&& to tell (his son) Baraa $iEW to<br />

(1) Bayhaqi as quoted in A1 Bidaaya wan Nihaaya (Vo1.3 Pg.180). Haakim has also narrated as quoted<br />

in Muntakhab Kanzul ummaal (Vo1.4 ~g.348). As quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vo1.8 ~;.335),<br />

Baghawi has also narrated it from Hadhrat Umar WSW and <strong>the</strong> Hadith is reliable, as confirmed<br />

by Ibn Ka<strong>the</strong>er.<br />
