During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud<br />

<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Umar !%Wj and his bro<strong>the</strong>r Zaid SUM Concerning<br />

not Wearing Armour with <strong>the</strong> Intention <strong>of</strong> being Martyred<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar %Wj narrates that on <strong>the</strong> day that <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong><br />

Uhud was fought, Hadhrat Umar !3,W> said to his bro<strong>the</strong>r, "Take my armour,<br />

dear bro<strong>the</strong>r." His bro<strong>the</strong>r replied, "I desire martyrdom just as you do." <strong>The</strong>y both<br />

<strong>the</strong>refore left <strong>the</strong> armour. (I)<br />

Hadhrat Ali %,%&&$ Resolves to Fight to Death<br />

Hadhrat Sa'eed bin Mansoor reports that Hadhrat Ali B,Gw said, "Once <strong>the</strong><br />

people had left Rasulullaah during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud, I looked through all<br />

<strong>the</strong> dead and did not see Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>re. I <strong>the</strong>n said to myself, 'By Allaah!<br />

It is impossible for Rasulullaah k%% to flee and I do not see him amongst <strong>the</strong><br />

dead. I think that Allaah has become angry with us because <strong>of</strong> what we did and<br />

had lifted his Nabi m. It is <strong>the</strong>refore best for me to fight until I am killed.' I<br />

<strong>the</strong>n broke <strong>the</strong> sheath <strong>of</strong> my sword and attacked <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen. When <strong>the</strong>y<br />

gave way, I suddenly saw Rasulullaah @@ in <strong>the</strong>ir midst." (2)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Anas bin Nadhar SFW<br />

Hadhrat Qaasim bin Abdur Rahmaan bin Raafi @Bm who belonged to <strong>the</strong> Banu<br />

Adi bin Najjaar tribe narrates that Hadhrat Anas bin Nadhar 3Gs <strong>the</strong> uncle <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Anas bin Maalik !&@& came across some men from <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Ansaar (during-<strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud) who had lost all morale to fight.<br />

Amongst <strong>the</strong>m was Hadhrat Umar bin Khattaab @Gw and Hadhrat Talha bin<br />

Ubaydillaah B,Gw. Hadhrat Anas bin Nadhar SWGG asked <strong>the</strong>m, "What makes<br />

you sit here?" "Rasulullaah @% has been martyred," <strong>the</strong>y replied. He <strong>the</strong>n said to<br />

<strong>the</strong>m, "What is <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> living after him? Stand up and die for that which<br />

Rasulullaah @% died for!" He <strong>the</strong>n faced <strong>the</strong> enemy and fought until he was<br />

killed. (3)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Thaabit bin Dahdaaha !WWj<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Arnmaar Khatmi SWZ reports that Hadhrat Thaabit bin<br />

Dahdaaha B,GWj came before <strong>the</strong> Muslims during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud when <strong>the</strong>y<br />

were all scattered and without morale. He shouted, "0 assembly <strong>of</strong> Ansaar! Come<br />

to me! Come to me! I am Thaabit bin Dahdaaha! If Muhammad has been<br />

killed, remember that Allaah is Living and never dies. Fight for your Deen, Allaah<br />

shall give you victory and shall assist you." A group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar jumped towards<br />

him and Hadhrat Thaabit B,- started attacking <strong>the</strong> Kuffaar with <strong>the</strong> Muslims<br />

by his side.<br />

A fully armed and powerful battalion stood before <strong>the</strong>m comprising <strong>of</strong> leading<br />

(1) Tabraani narrating from reliable sources as confirmed by Haythami (Vo1.5 Pg.298). Ibn Sa'd (Vol.3<br />

Pg.275) and Abu Nu'aym in Hilya (Vol.1 Pg.367) have also reported <strong>the</strong> narration.<br />

(2) Abu Ya'la, Ibn Abi Aasim, Boraqi and Sa'eed bin Mansoor, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vo1.5<br />

Pg.274). Haythami (Vo1.6 Pg.112) has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators.<br />

(3) Ibn Is'haaq, as quoted in AIBidaaya wan Nihaaya (Vo1.4 Pg.34).
