<strong>The</strong> Hardships that Rasulullaah<br />

Experienced<br />

after <strong>the</strong> Death <strong>of</strong> his Uncle<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Ja'far WW6 narrates that when Abu Taalib passed away,<br />

a fool from amongst <strong>the</strong> fools <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Quraysh app;oached Rasulullaah w and<br />

threw sand at him. When Rasulullaah @%! returned home, one <strong>of</strong> his daughters<br />

came to wipe <strong>the</strong> sand from his face and <strong>the</strong>n began weeping. He said to her, "0<br />

beloved daughter! Do not weep for Allaah shall protect your fa<strong>the</strong>r." Amongst<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r things, he also said to her, "Until Abu Taalib passed away, <strong>the</strong> Quraysh<br />

dared not do anything unpleasant to me. Now <strong>the</strong>y have started." ('I<br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra %l!X% had mentioned that when Abu Taalib passed away,<br />

<strong>the</strong> Quraysh started treating Rasulullaah &%% very harshly. Rasulullaah &%$<br />

<strong>the</strong>n said, "0 my uncle! I am very quickly feeling your loss." (2)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Harassment that Rasulullaah &%% Received<br />

from <strong>the</strong> mraysh and his Response<br />

Hadhrat Haarith bin Haarith ?&%I66 narrates that he once asked his fa<strong>the</strong>r, "What<br />

is this ga<strong>the</strong>ring all about?" His fa<strong>the</strong>r replied, "<strong>The</strong>se people have ga<strong>the</strong>red<br />

around an irreligious man from amongst <strong>the</strong>m." Hadhrat Haarith says<br />

that when <strong>the</strong>y dismounted <strong>the</strong>y saw that it was Rasulullaah @& <strong>the</strong>re calling<br />

people towards <strong>the</strong> Oneness <strong>of</strong> Allaah and towards Irnaan. ow eve;, <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

rejecting what he was saying and harming him. <strong>The</strong> people eventually left him<br />

when half <strong>the</strong> day had passed. A lady whose neck was exposed <strong>the</strong>n came to him<br />

with a dish full <strong>of</strong> water and a cloth. Taking water from <strong>the</strong> dish, Rasulullaah<br />

@& drank some and <strong>the</strong>n made wudhu. He <strong>the</strong>n raised his head and said, "Dear<br />

daughter! Wear a scarf around you neck and do not fear for your fa<strong>the</strong>r."<br />

Hadhrat Haarith 3iWiW says that when <strong>the</strong>y asked who <strong>the</strong> lady was, people<br />

informed <strong>the</strong>m that she was Zaynab -, <strong>the</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah<br />

Hadhrat Muneeb Azdi %W&% narrates that during <strong>the</strong> Period <strong>of</strong> Ignorance he<br />

saw Rasulullaah saying to <strong>the</strong> people, "0 people! Say 'Laa Ilaaha Illallaah'<br />

and you will be successful." However, some people spat on his face, some threw<br />

sand at him and o<strong>the</strong>rs swore him. This continued until midday when a girl<br />

would come to<br />

him with a dish <strong>of</strong> water. He <strong>the</strong>n washed his face and hands and<br />

would say to her, "0 beloved daughter! Do nut fear that your fa<strong>the</strong>r will ever be<br />

killed suddenly or humiliated." Hadhrat Muneeb S@&!kj says that when he asked<br />

some people who <strong>the</strong> girl was, <strong>the</strong>y informed him that it was Rasulullaah m s<br />

daughter zaynab WHa. He also adds that she was a very pretty girl.(4)<br />

Hadhrat Urwa narrates that he once asked Hadhrat Abul Aas !&WW about<br />

<strong>the</strong> worst thing that <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen did to Rasulullaah m. He said, 'When<br />

Rasulullaah @8$ was once performing salaah in <strong>the</strong> Hateem <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Kabah, Uqba<br />
