Hishaam, Ikrama bin Abi Jahal and Ayaash bin Rabee'ah i@Wj were all fatally<br />

wounded during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yarmook. When Hadhrat Haarith bin Hishaam<br />

iBWj asked for some water and was about to drink it, Hadhrat Ikrama H3Wj<br />

looked at him. Hadhrat Haarith B.- said, "Give <strong>the</strong> water to Ikrama." When<br />

Hadhrat Ikrama SWj took <strong>the</strong> water, Hadhrat pyaash ~,G4BG looked at him.<br />

Hadhrat Ikrama ~ ,GWj <strong>the</strong>refore asked that <strong>the</strong> water be given to Hadhrat<br />

Ayaash %WWj. However, before <strong>the</strong> water could reach Hadhrat Ayaash S,-,<br />

he had already passed away. BY <strong>the</strong> time <strong>the</strong> water reached <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs, <strong>the</strong>y had<br />

also passed away. (I)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Arnr Ansaari %@$@@3 Endures Severe<br />

Thirst in <strong>the</strong> Path <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

Hadhrat Muhammad bin Hanafiyyah %- says, "Hadhrat Abu Amr Ansaari<br />

~,Wj had participated in <strong>the</strong> Battles <strong>of</strong> Badr, Uhud and <strong>the</strong> pledge at Aqaba. I<br />

once saw him fasting (on <strong>the</strong> battlefield), restless because <strong>of</strong> severe thirst. He<br />

asked his slave to pass him his shield and when <strong>the</strong> slave did so, he Bred ar.<br />

arrow which did not go far (because he had grown weak with thirst). When he<br />

had fired three arrows, he said that he had heard Rasulullaah<br />

say,<br />

Whoever fires an arrow in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong> Allaah, <strong>the</strong> arrow shall be a source <strong>of</strong><br />

light for him on <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah whe<strong>the</strong>r it reaches its target or not.'<br />

Hadhrat Abu Arnr Saw was martyred before sunset <strong>of</strong> that day." (2) Ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

narration states that he asked his slave for water, which <strong>the</strong> slave gave.<br />

Enduring Extreme Cold when Inviting<br />

People Towards Allaah<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> &3Gw Dig <strong>the</strong> Trench in Extreme Cold<br />

Hadhrat Abu Rayhaana @,- who was with Rasulullaah in a battle<br />

narrates, "We took shelter near a hill one night when <strong>the</strong> cold was so severe that<br />

some men dug holes in <strong>the</strong> ground, got in and covered holes with <strong>the</strong>ir shields.<br />

When Rasulullaah @$@ noticed this, he announced, 'Who will stand guard over<br />

us tonight? I shall make such a du'aa for him, <strong>the</strong> virtues <strong>of</strong> which he will<br />

certainly receive.' A man from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar stood up and volunteered. When<br />

Rasulullaah '@?@ asked who he was, he gave his name. Rasulullaah @?@ asked<br />

him to come closer and when he did, Rasulullaah @?%$ held a part <strong>of</strong> his clothing<br />

and started making du'aa for him. When I heard <strong>the</strong> du'aa, I also volunteered.<br />

Rasulullaah @@ asked me who I was and I informed him that I was Abu<br />

Rayhaana. Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>n made a du'aa for me that was shorter than <strong>the</strong><br />

one he made for <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r person. <strong>The</strong>reafter, Rasulullaah @@ said, <strong>The</strong> fire <strong>of</strong><br />

(I) Abu Nu'aym and Ibn Asaakir as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal(Vol.5 Pg.310). Haakim has reported it in<br />

his Mustadrak (Vo1.3 Pg.242). A similar report from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mus'ab !XIw cites <strong>the</strong><br />

name <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Suhayl bin Amr ?&UWkj instead <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Ayaash ?33&%. Ibn Sa'd has also<br />

narrated a similar narration as quoted in Isti'aab (Vo1.3 Pg.150).<br />

Mustadrak (Vo1.3 Pg.395)
