Khabbaab WG=. Hadhrat Umar 3,G@% replied, "He is Bilaal WGM." Hadhrat<br />

Khabbaab !&Gm said, "He is really not more deserving than me because <strong>the</strong>re<br />

were people amongst <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen whom Allaah used to protect him while<br />

<strong>the</strong>re was none to protect me. I had seen myself on a day when <strong>the</strong>y captured<br />

me, lit a fire and <strong>the</strong>n put me to rdast in it. A man <strong>the</strong>n placed his foot on my<br />

chest and <strong>the</strong>re was only my back to extinguish <strong>the</strong> fire." Hadhrat Khabbaab<br />

%W,@!& <strong>the</strong>n exposed his back which seemed to be affected by leprosy. ('1<br />

<strong>The</strong> Torture that Hadhrat Khabbaab !&Gw<br />

Suffered<br />

Imaam Sha'bi narrates that when Hadhrat Umar !&Gw asked Hadhrat Khabbaab<br />

@Wj about <strong>the</strong> tortures he suffered at <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen, he said, "0<br />

Arneerul Mu'mineen! Take a look at my back." Hadhrat Umar %WW says, "I have<br />

never before seen anything like it." Hadhrat Khabbaab ~ ,GM <strong>the</strong>n related, "<strong>The</strong>y<br />

made'a fire for me and (after throwing me in) <strong>the</strong>re was nothing but <strong>the</strong> fat on my<br />

back to extinguish it." (2)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Layla Kindi narrates that when Hadhrat Khabbaab %Wi!& came to<br />

Hadhrat Umar @Uw, Hadhrat Umar @l%Wj told <strong>the</strong> people to allow him to<br />

-come to <strong>the</strong> front and said, "Besides Amqaar bin Yaasir, <strong>the</strong>re is none on <strong>the</strong><br />

surface <strong>of</strong> this earth who deserves to occupy this place more than you." It was on<br />

that occasion that Hadhrat Khabbaab WX% showed Hadhrat Umar %SWj <strong>the</strong><br />

scars on his back that were made by <strong>the</strong> torture that Mushrikeen put him<br />

through. (3)<br />

Hadhrat Khabbaab ~ !&W says, "I was a blacksmith and Aas bin Waa'il owed me<br />

some money. When I approached him to settle <strong>the</strong> debt, he said, 'By Allaah! I<br />

shall never pay you until you reject Muhammad!' I responded by saying, 'Never! I<br />

swear by Allaah th4 I shall never reject Muhammad @?@ even after you die and<br />

are resurrected!' He said, "<strong>The</strong>n come to me after I have died and am resurrected.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re I shall have plenty <strong>of</strong> wealth and children and I shall <strong>the</strong>n pay you."' It was<br />

<strong>the</strong>n that Allaah ,cvealed <strong>the</strong> following verses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan:<br />

Have you seen him who rejects Our Aayaat and says, "I shall certainly<br />

be granted (abundant) wealth 'and children (in <strong>the</strong> Aakhirah just as /<br />

have <strong>the</strong>m in this worfd).'' Has he peeked into <strong>the</strong> unseen or has he<br />

made a pact with Ar Rahmaan (because <strong>of</strong> which he seems convinced <strong>of</strong><br />

this)? Never! We shall shortly record what he says and continue to<br />

intensify <strong>the</strong> punishment for him (in <strong>the</strong> Aakhirah). (On <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong><br />
