sitting in <strong>the</strong> Hateem. <strong>The</strong>y were Abu Jahal bin Hishaam, Shayba Sin Rabee'ah,<br />

Utba bin Rabee'ah, Uqba bin Abi Mu'eet, Umayyah bin Khalaf and ano<strong>the</strong>r two<br />

persons. Whenever Rasulullaah went into Sajdah (prostration), he<br />

leng<strong>the</strong>ned his Sajdah. Abu Jahal asked <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs which <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m would<br />

volunteer to go to a certain tribe that had slau@tered some camels and bring<br />

back <strong>the</strong> entrails <strong>of</strong> a camel to throw on Rasulullaah @@. <strong>The</strong> worst <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m<br />

who was Uqba bin Abi Mu'eet brought it and threw it on <strong>the</strong> shoulders <strong>of</strong><br />

Rasulullaah @@ while he was in Sajdah.<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas'ood 3iWiWij says that he stood <strong>the</strong>re watching but<br />

was unable to say anything because <strong>the</strong>re was no one <strong>the</strong>re to protect him (if <strong>the</strong><br />

mob attacked him). As he was leaving, <strong>the</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @@ Hadhrat<br />

Faatima GEIGW5 heard about <strong>the</strong> incident and came <strong>the</strong>re. After she had removed<br />

<strong>the</strong> filth from Rasulullaah ms shoulders, she turned to <strong>the</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Quraysh present <strong>the</strong>re and admonished <strong>the</strong>m. None <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m were able to give her<br />

a reply. Rasulullaah @% <strong>the</strong>n lifted his head as he normally lifted it after<br />

completing <strong>the</strong> Sajdah and when he had finished his salaah, he prayed, "0 Allaah!<br />

You deal with <strong>the</strong> Quraysh; deal with Utba, Uqba, Abu Jahal and Shayba."<br />

Rasulullaah @@ made this du'aa three times and <strong>the</strong>n left <strong>the</strong> Masjid.<br />

Wearing his whip as a belt, Abul Bakhtari met Rasulullaah m. Noticing <strong>the</strong><br />

disturbed look on Rasulullaah m's face, he asked, "What is <strong>the</strong> matter?"<br />

Rasulullaah #& said, "Please leave me to myself." Abul Bakhtari insisted, "Allaah<br />

knows that I shall never leave you to yourself until you tell me what had<br />

happened. Have you been hurt?" When Rasulullaah @& realized that Abul<br />

Bakhtari would not leave him alone, he informed him that <strong>the</strong> entrails <strong>of</strong> a camel<br />

were throwneon him by <strong>the</strong> instruction <strong>of</strong> Abu Jahal. Abul Bakhtari said, "Come to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Masjid." When Rasulullaah @% and Abul Bakhtari entered <strong>the</strong> Masjid, Abul<br />

Bakhtari confronted Abu Jahal and asked, "0 Abul Hakam! Is it you who<br />

instructed that <strong>the</strong> entrails <strong>of</strong> a camel should be thrown on Muhammad?" When<br />

Abu Jahal admitted that he did, Abul Bakhtari lifted his whip and smote Abu Jahal<br />

on <strong>the</strong> head. As <strong>the</strong> people started fighting with each o<strong>the</strong>r, Abu Jahal shouted,<br />

"Shame on you people! Muhammad wants us to be at loggerheads while he and<br />

his companions remain safe." ('1<br />

Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi and o<strong>the</strong>rs have also reported <strong>the</strong> incident <strong>of</strong> Abul<br />

Bakhtari in brief. <strong>The</strong> narration <strong>of</strong> Bukhari states that after thky had thrown <strong>the</strong><br />

entrails on Rasulullaah @@, <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen started laughing so much that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

actually fell on top <strong>of</strong> each o<strong>the</strong>r. <strong>The</strong> narration <strong>of</strong> Ahmad quotes from Hadhrat<br />

Abdullaah bin Mas'ood %I!%!!&<br />

that he saw all seven <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se Mushrikeen<br />

killed during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Badr. (2)<br />

Jahal Harasses Rasulullaah'<br />

Hadhrat Ya'qoob bin Utba narrates that Abu Jahal once approached Rasulullaah<br />

( I ) Bazzaar and Tabraani. Haythami (Vo1.6 Pg.18) has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators. Abu<br />

Nu'aym has reported a similar narration in DalaaYl(Pg.90).<br />
