from Fleeing and to Ensure that <strong>the</strong>y are Martyred<br />

<strong>The</strong> daughter <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Thaabit bin Qais bin Shammaas 3,GWj narrates that<br />

when Hadhrat Abu Bakr smj requested <strong>the</strong> Muslim to fight against those who<br />

forsook Islaam from Yamaamah and <strong>the</strong> followers <strong>of</strong> Musaylama, Hadhrat<br />

Thaabit bin Qais bin Shammaas sB@$j was amongst those who marched. When<br />

<strong>the</strong> Muslim army clashed with Musaylama and <strong>the</strong> Banu Haneefa tribe, <strong>the</strong><br />

Muslims were defeated in three battles. It was <strong>the</strong>n that Hadhrat Thaabit bin<br />

Qais bin Shammaas ~G&!++ and Hadhrat Saalim <strong>the</strong> freed slave <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu<br />

Hudhayfa SGWj said, "This was not how we fought during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />

Rasulullaah @g." <strong>The</strong>y <strong>the</strong>n dug a foxhole for <strong>the</strong>mselves, got in and fought<br />

until <strong>the</strong>y were both martyred. ('I<br />

Hadhrat Muhammad bin Thaabit bin Qais bin Shammaas S,Gw narrates that<br />

when <strong>the</strong> Muslims were initially defeated during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah,<br />

Hadhrat Saalim <strong>the</strong> freed slave <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu Hudhayfa Wi%W said, "This was<br />

not how we fought during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah w." He <strong>the</strong>n dug a foxhole<br />

for himself and stood in it. Carrying <strong>the</strong> flag <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Muhaajireen with him, he <strong>the</strong>n<br />

fought until he was martyred. May Allaah shower His mercy on him. This<br />

occurred during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah during <strong>the</strong> Khilaafah <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu<br />

Bakr @@$&j<br />

<strong>The</strong> Call Hadhrat Abbaad bin Bishr g,G@@2 Made to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Ansaar Before he was Martyred<br />

Hadhrat Abu Sa'eed Khudri %.Gw reports that Hadhrat Abbaad bin Bishr SGW<br />

said to him, "0 Abu Sa'eed! Last night I saw (in a dream) that <strong>the</strong> sky opened up<br />

for me and <strong>the</strong>n shut behind me (after I had entered). lnshaa Allaah, this<br />

indicates martyrdom." Hadhrat Abu Sa'eed Khudri ~UWj says, "I told him that he<br />

had seen an excellent dream. During <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Yamaamah, I <strong>the</strong>n saw him<br />

calling to <strong>the</strong> Ansaar, 'Break <strong>the</strong> sheaths <strong>of</strong> your swords and separate from <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs. Let us Ansaar separate! Let us Ansaar separate (from <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r soldiers so<br />

that we may show our courage and encourage <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>the</strong>reby)!' Four hundred<br />

soldiers only from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar ga<strong>the</strong>red aside. Abbaad bin Bishr ~ BWj, Abu<br />

Dujaanah %GW+ and Baraa bin Maalik SBWj led <strong>the</strong>m to <strong>the</strong> orchard (where<br />

<strong>the</strong> enemy had fortified <strong>the</strong>mselves) and fought very hard. Abbaad bin Bishr<br />

%G*j was martyred. May Allaah shower His mercies on him. 1 saw so many<br />

wounds on his face that I could recognise him only by signs on his body." (3)<br />
