He may punish <strong>the</strong> evil-doers for <strong>the</strong>ir (evil) actions and reward those<br />

who do<br />

good with <strong>the</strong> best (<strong>of</strong> rewards, namely Jannah). {Surah Najm,<br />

verse 31 )<br />

Listen attentively! Tomorrow you will face your enemy so spend a long time in<br />

salaah tonight, recite Qur'aan abundantly and beseech Allaah for assistance and<br />

steadfastness. Fight <strong>the</strong>m with determination and caution and remain staunch."<br />

Hadhrat Ali B,= Encourages <strong>the</strong> Muslims During<br />

<strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Siffeen<br />

Hadhrat Abu Amra Ansaari narrates that when giving courage to <strong>the</strong> Muslims<br />

during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Siffeen, Hadhrat Ali 3w said, "Allaah has shown you a<br />

trade which will save you from a painful punishment and take you closer to all<br />

goodness(2) ; (<strong>the</strong> trade is) Imaan in Allaah and His ~ asoolw and Jihaad in <strong>the</strong><br />

path <strong>of</strong> Allaah Whose mention is most high. Allaah has determined that <strong>the</strong><br />

rewards for this shall be forgiveness from Allaah and wonderful mansions in <strong>the</strong><br />

eternal Jannah. Allaah has also informed you that He loves those who fight (<strong>the</strong><br />

enemies <strong>of</strong> Islaam) in His path (standing) in rows (in front <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemy with<br />

steadfastness and unity) as if <strong>the</strong>y are a solid building. You should <strong>the</strong>refore<br />

straighten your rows like a solid building. Those wearing armour should be in<br />

front and those without armour should fall behind. <strong>The</strong>n persevere with<br />

tenacity." (3)<br />

Hadhrat Ali BGWj Encourages <strong>the</strong> Muslims to<br />

Fight <strong>the</strong> Khawaarij<br />

Hadhrat Abul Wadaak Hamdaani narrates that when Hadhrat Ali 9,= camped<br />

at a place called Nukhayla (close to Kufa) and had lost hope in <strong>the</strong> Khawaarij, he<br />

stood up (to address <strong>the</strong> people). After praising Allaah, he said, "He who discards<br />

Jihaad and compromises <strong>the</strong> laws <strong>of</strong> Allaah, borders on <strong>the</strong> fringe <strong>of</strong><br />

destruction unless Allaah rescues him by His grace. Fear Allaah and fight those<br />

who oppose Allaah, who attempt to extinguish <strong>the</strong> light <strong>of</strong> Allaah, who are in<br />

error, deviant, oppressive and sinful. <strong>The</strong>y are not pr<strong>of</strong>icient in reciting <strong>the</strong><br />

Qur'aan, have no understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Deen, have no knowledge <strong>of</strong> interpreting<br />

<strong>the</strong> Qur'aan and are not even long in <strong>the</strong> Deen that <strong>the</strong>y could be wbrthy <strong>of</strong><br />

Khilaafah. By Allaah! If <strong>the</strong>y become rulers, <strong>the</strong>y will rule you in <strong>the</strong> way that<br />

Kisra and Heraclius ruled. Prepare well for your march against your enemies<br />

from <strong>the</strong> West. I have sent a message to your bro<strong>the</strong>rs from Basrah to come to<br />

(assist) you. Inshaa Allaah, we shall all msrch toge<strong>the</strong>r (against <strong>the</strong> Khawaarij) as<br />

soon as <strong>the</strong>y arrive. <strong>The</strong>re is no power or might but with Allaah." (4)<br />
