Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari ~~~=<br />

Hadhrat Bau Umayya narrates that when ~adHrat Abu Moosa Ash'ari set<br />

up camp at Isfahan, he invited <strong>the</strong> people to accept Islaam. When <strong>the</strong>y refused to<br />

accept Islaam, he proposed <strong>the</strong> Jizya and <strong>the</strong>y opted to enter into negotiations<br />

with him. Whereas <strong>the</strong>y opted for peace that night, <strong>the</strong> following morning <strong>the</strong>y<br />

betrayed <strong>the</strong> Muslims and launched a surprise attack. However, it was very soon<br />

that Allaah granted <strong>the</strong> Muslims victory over <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

Ibn Is'haaq narrates that after some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar had pledged allegiance to<br />

Rasulullaah &$@ (in Makkah), <strong>the</strong>y came back to Madinah and Islaam started<br />

manifesting itself in Madinah. However, <strong>the</strong>re were still those Mushrikeen<br />

amongst <strong>the</strong> Ansaar who adhered to <strong>the</strong>ir religion. Amongst <strong>the</strong>se was Hadhrat<br />

Amr bin Jamooh !&UW6, whose son Mu'aadh %3W& had also pledged allegiance<br />

to Rasulullaah @%@! at Aqaba. Hadhrat Amr bin Jamooh ?&%%I%<br />

was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

leaders <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Banu salsa tribe' and one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most respected persons amongst<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. As was <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> noble people <strong>of</strong> those times, Hadhrat Amr bin<br />

Jamooh !EW% also kept a wooden idol in his house that he named Manaat. He<br />

regarded it to be his deity and always kept it clean.<br />

After accepting Islaam, some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> youngsters <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Banu Salma tribe toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

with o<strong>the</strong>rs who had pledged allegiance to Rasulullaah @?@ at Aqaba such as<br />

Hadhrat Mu'aadh bin Jabal !WW and Hadhrat Amr bin Jamooh ?iWWs son<br />

Mu'aadh W%W, used to take away <strong>the</strong> idol <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Amr bin Jamooh W3M<br />

at night and <strong>the</strong>n throw it head first into one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pits <strong>the</strong>y used as a rubbish<br />

dump. In <strong>the</strong> mornings, Hadhrat Amr bin Jamooh W3W used to say, ''Woe be to<br />

those who have manhandled our god last night!" He would <strong>the</strong>n go looking for<br />

<strong>the</strong> idol. When he found it, he would wash it, clean it thoroughly and apply<br />

perfume to it. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he would say, "I swear by Allaah that if I found out who<br />

did this, I would certainly disgrace him." Vowever, as soon as Hadhrat Amr bin<br />

Jamooh W3M went to sleep, <strong>the</strong> youngsters again repeated <strong>the</strong>ir deed.<br />

One day, when <strong>the</strong>y had carried out <strong>the</strong>ir deed once too <strong>of</strong>ten for him, he took<br />

<strong>the</strong> idol out from where <strong>the</strong>y had thrown it after cleaning it and applying<br />

perfume, he hung his sword around its neck. He <strong>the</strong>n said to it, "By Allaah! I have<br />

no idea who is doing this to you. However, if you have <strong>the</strong> courage, you should<br />

defend yourself for you now have this sword with you." When night fell and<br />
