to exercise patience. Hadhrat Mu'aawiya %Ew <strong>the</strong>n said, "<strong>The</strong>n be patient."<br />

Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob 4-j remarked, "I swear by Allaah that I shall never again<br />

ask you for anything!"<br />

Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob SWG <strong>the</strong>n went to Basra where he stayed with Hadhrat<br />

Abdullaah bin Abbaas 9GW. Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas 3Gw emptied his<br />

home for Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob BWG and said, "1 shall do for you as you had<br />

done for Rasulullaah @&." He <strong>the</strong>n instructed his family to leave <strong>the</strong> house,<br />

which <strong>the</strong>y did. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he said to Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob SGw, 'You may<br />

use anything in <strong>the</strong> house." In addition, he left with him forty thousand<br />

Dirhams and twenty slaves." (')<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration adds that Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob %3Gw <strong>the</strong>n went to Hadhrat<br />

Abdullaah bin Abbaas 9- in Basra, who had been appointed as its governor<br />

by Hadhrat Ali %3W&4. Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas %iUW said, "0 Abu<br />

Ayyoob! I wish to leave this house for you just as you left your house for<br />

Rasulullaah w." He <strong>the</strong>n instructed his family to leave, which <strong>the</strong>y did.<br />

<strong>The</strong>reafter, he gave everything in <strong>the</strong> house to Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob 3GGj. When<br />

Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob 3- was leaving <strong>the</strong> place, Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas<br />

asked him, "How much do you need?" Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob BGw told<br />

him that he required <strong>the</strong> amount that he usually received as a grant and eight<br />

slaves to work in his fields. His grant was four thousand Dirhams, so Hadhrat<br />

Abdullaah bin Abbaas k ?%j gave him five times <strong>the</strong> amount, which was a sum<br />

<strong>of</strong> twenty thousand Dirhams and forty slaves. (2)<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas %)2$&$$ Goes out <strong>of</strong><br />

his Way to Have <strong>the</strong> Needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar Fulfilled<br />

Hadhrat Hassaan bin Thaabit narrates that <strong>the</strong>y were a group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Ansaar who needed to place a request before <strong>the</strong> Ameerul Mu'mineen who was<br />

ei<strong>the</strong>r Hadhrat Umar k%G%%j or Hadhrat Uthmaan 43~j(~).<br />

<strong>The</strong>y proceeded with<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas %E&!kj and a group <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Sahabah</strong> F4E.<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas %lWj and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Sahabah</strong> iSw all spoke<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Arneerul Mu'mineen and mentioned <strong>the</strong> virtues <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar. However, <strong>the</strong><br />

Ameerul Mu'mineen had to make an excuse. <strong>The</strong> need <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ansaar was an<br />

urgent one and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> BW repeated <strong>the</strong> request several times.<br />

However, <strong>the</strong>y all eventually accepted <strong>the</strong> excuse and just stood <strong>the</strong>re. Not<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas SWj. He persisted and said, "Never! By Allaah! (I<br />

shall never accept <strong>the</strong> excuse because) <strong>The</strong>n <strong>the</strong> Ansaar will have no status. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

assisted Rasulullaah @@ and granted him protection."<br />

<strong>the</strong> narration from reliable sources as confirmed by Dhahabi.<br />

(2) Tabraani, as quoted in Majma'uz Zawaa'id (Vol.9 Pg.323). Haythami has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain<br />

<strong>of</strong> narrators. Haakim (Vo1.3 Pg.461) has also reported <strong>the</strong> narration with an extended chain <strong>of</strong><br />

narrators and commentary.<br />

(3) One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> narrators by <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Ibn Abi Zinaad was unsure about who <strong>the</strong> Ameerul Mu'mineen<br />

was during that time.
