I said to <strong>the</strong>m, 'Dig under <strong>the</strong> threshold <strong>of</strong> that door. <strong>The</strong>re are many Awqiya <strong>of</strong><br />

gold lies buried <strong>the</strong>re and <strong>the</strong>n go to a certain woman and take <strong>the</strong> two sets <strong>of</strong><br />

clothing she has (<strong>of</strong> mine).' I <strong>the</strong>n left and arrived in Quba before Rasulullaah<br />

@% moved from <strong>the</strong>re. When Rasulullaah @%% saw me, he said, '0 Abu Yahya!<br />

Your transaction has been pr<strong>of</strong>itable.' I submitted, '0 Rasulullaah @@! NO one<br />

could have come to you before me (with <strong>the</strong> news). It can be none but Hadhrat<br />

Jibra'eel @%.$ who has informed you."' (')<br />

Hadhrat Suhayb %XiiWj Arrives in Quba Where<br />

Rasulullaah Gives him <strong>the</strong> Glad Tidings <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Verse <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan that Allaah had Revealed<br />

about him<br />

Hadhrat Sa'eed bin Musayyib 3,km narrates that when Hadhrat Suhayb<br />

lek to migrate to Rasulullaah w, a group <strong>of</strong> Mushrikeen from <strong>the</strong> Quraysh<br />

pursued him. Hadhrat Suhayb dismounted and emptied his quiver saying,<br />

"0 assembly <strong>of</strong> Quraysh! You know well that I am <strong>the</strong> best archer <strong>of</strong> you all. 1<br />

swear by Allaah that none <strong>of</strong> you shall get close to me until I have fired every<br />

arrow in my quiver at you. I shall <strong>the</strong>n fight you with my sword as long as it is in<br />

my hand. You may <strong>the</strong>refore decide what you want to do. On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, if<br />

you .agree I can direct you to my wealth in Makkah, if you leave me alone." When<br />

<strong>the</strong> men agreed, <strong>the</strong> deal was made and he gave <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> directions. It was with<br />

regard to this event that Allaah revealed to Rasulullaah @% <strong>the</strong> following verse<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan:<br />

From mankind is he who would sell himself seeking Allaah's pleasure<br />

and Allaah is Most Compassionate towards His bondsmen. {Surah<br />

Baqarah, verse 207)<br />

When Rasulullaah &$& saw Hadhrat Suhayb ?8!3@%, he said, "Your transaction<br />

has been pr<strong>of</strong>itable, 0 Abu Yahyal Your transaction has been pr<strong>of</strong>itable, 0 Abu<br />

Yahya!" Rasulullaah @?% <strong>the</strong>n recited <strong>the</strong> above verse to him. (2)<br />

Hadhrat Ikrama narrates that when Hadhrat Suhayb left to migrate to<br />

Madinah, some people <strong>of</strong> Makkah pursued him. Hadhrat Suhayb ?8t3W emptied<br />

his quiver and found forty arrows. He <strong>the</strong>n said to <strong>the</strong>m, ''None <strong>of</strong> you shall come<br />

close to me without me placing an arrow into every one <strong>of</strong> you. <strong>The</strong>reafter, I shall<br />

use my sword and you know well that I am a man (<strong>of</strong> great strength and<br />

courage). However, Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar ~,W& has left two slave<br />

(1) Bayhaqi, as quoted in Al Bidaaya wan Nihaaya (Vo1.3 Pg. 173). Tabraani has also narrated a similar<br />

Hadith and Haythami (Voi.6 Pg.60) has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators. Abu Nu'avm in his<br />

Hilya (Vol. 1 Pg: 152) has also reported <strong>the</strong> narration.<br />

(2) Abu Nu'aym and lbn Sa'd (Vo1.3 Pg. 162) as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vol. 1 Pg.237). lbn Abdil Birr<br />

has also reported <strong>the</strong> narration his Istpaab (Vo1.2 Pg. 180).
