Rasulullaah~. I shall <strong>the</strong>n catch up with you." Rasulullaah~ caught sight <strong>of</strong><br />

him after performing <strong>the</strong> salaah and asked, "What prevented you from leaving<br />

with your companions in <strong>the</strong> morning?" Hadhrat Ibn Rawaaha !&I%%<br />

replied, "I<br />

wanted to perform <strong>the</strong> Jumu'ah salaah with you and catch <strong>the</strong>m up later."<br />

~asulullaah@!$!$ said, "Even if you spent everything on earth you would be<br />

unable to gain (<strong>the</strong> rewards <strong>of</strong>) <strong>the</strong>ir morning.'' ('I<br />

~asulullaah~ Rebukes one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong><br />

B,- who Delayed Marching in <strong>the</strong> Path <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah<br />

Hadhrat Mu'aadh bin Anas ~ ,W narrates that Rasulullaah@% once<br />

commanded some <strong>Sahabah</strong> i&Y!3Wj to march on a military expedition. One <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>m said to his wife, "I shall stay behind to perform salaah with<br />

Rasulullaahm. <strong>The</strong>reafter, I can make salaam with him and bid him farewell.<br />

He would <strong>the</strong>n make a du'aa for me that would reach <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah (and<br />

benefit me <strong>the</strong>n)." After Rasulullaah@%?@ had completed <strong>the</strong> salaah, <strong>the</strong> man<br />

came forward to greet him. ~asulullaah@% asked, "Do you know how far ahead<br />

your companions have gone?" "Yes," replied <strong>the</strong> Sahabi S13&%, "<strong>The</strong>y are ahead<br />

<strong>of</strong> me by half a day." Rasulullaah@@ said, "I swear by <strong>the</strong> Being Who controls<br />

my life! <strong>The</strong>y have excelled you in virtue by a measure that is greater than <strong>the</strong><br />

distance between <strong>the</strong> east and <strong>the</strong> west." (2)<br />

~asulullaah@i!@ Commands a Battalion to Leave<br />

by Night<br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra SWW6 narrates that Rasulullaah~ once commanded a<br />

battalion to leave. <strong>The</strong>y asked, "0 ~asulullaah@%! Should we leave tonight or<br />

wait until <strong>the</strong> morning?" Rasulullaah@@# said, "Would you not like to spend <strong>the</strong><br />

night in a garden from amongst <strong>the</strong> magnificent gardens <strong>of</strong> Jannah?" (3)<br />

Hadhrat Umar BGWj Censures Hadhrat Mu'aadh<br />

bin Jabal !HG553 for Delaying his Departure<br />

Hadhrat Abu Zur'ah bin Amr bin Jareer narrates that Hadhrat Umar !BW once<br />

dispatched an army that included Hadhrat Mu'aadh bin Jabal @,w. After <strong>the</strong><br />

army had left, Hadhrat Umar ~,Wj saw Hadhrat Mu'aadh 3B3Wj and asked,<br />

"What has kept you back?" Hadhrat Mu'aadh !&W&i replied, "I wanted to leave<br />

after performing <strong>the</strong> Jumu'ah salaah." Hadhrat Umar %lMBj scolded him by<br />

saying, "Have you not heard Rasulullaahm say, 'A single morning or evening in<br />

(I) Tirmidhi with commentary on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators, as quoted in A1 Bidaaya wan Nihaaya (Vo1.4<br />

Pg.242).<br />

(2) Ahmad. Haythami (Vo1.5 Pg.284) has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators.<br />

(3) Bayhaqi (Vo1.9 Pg.158). Tabraani has also reported <strong>the</strong> narration and Haythami (Vo1.5 Pg.276) has<br />

commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators.
