<strong>the</strong> Qur1aan('). After accepting all <strong>the</strong> conditions, <strong>the</strong> ladies stretched out <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

hands to affirm <strong>the</strong> pledge. Rasulullaah @& said to <strong>the</strong>m, "I cannot touch <strong>the</strong><br />

hands <strong>of</strong> strange women." Rasulullaah @?@ <strong>the</strong>n sought Allaah's forgiveness for<br />

<strong>the</strong> ladies. This was <strong>the</strong>ir Bay'ah. (2)<br />

Hadhrat Umaymah bint Ruqayqah r&lZ@% narfates that she approached<br />

Rasulullaah rn toge<strong>the</strong>r with a few o<strong>the</strong>r ladies'to pledge <strong>the</strong>ir allegiance. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

said, "0 Rasulullaah @?@! We pledge that we shall not ascribe any partner to<br />

Allaah, not steal, not fornicate, not kill our children, not come forth with slander<br />

which we fabricate befort our hands and legs (by claiming that ano<strong>the</strong>r man's<br />

child is our husbands') and that we shall not disobey you in any good (deed that<br />

you command us to do)." Rasulullaah @%! added, "To <strong>the</strong> best <strong>of</strong> your ability and<br />

according to your capability." <strong>The</strong> ladies commented, "Allaah and His Rasool m<br />

are more merciful towards us than we are to ourselves. Come (give us you hand),<br />

0 Rasulullaah @&. Let us now pledge our allegiance to you." Rasulullaah @@<br />

said, "I cannot shake <strong>the</strong> hand <strong>of</strong> a woman. What I say to a hundred women is<br />

<strong>the</strong> same as I say to one woman (<strong>the</strong>ir pledge is confirmed merely by<br />

speech)."(3)<br />

Hadhrat Umayma bint Ruqayqa @G$i@%j Pledges<br />

Allegiance to Islaam<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Amr ?3!%% narrates that ~adhrat Umayma bint Ruqayqa<br />

G63ISW5 approached to pledge her allegiance to Islaam. Rasulullaah @@ said to<br />

her, "I require you to pledge that you shall not ascribe any partner to Allaah, not<br />

steal, not fornicate, not kill your child, not come forth with slander which you<br />

fabricatenbefore your two hands and legs, not wail at <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> anyone and not<br />

to make a spectacle <strong>of</strong> yourself as women made spectacles <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>mselves during<br />

<strong>the</strong> first Period <strong>of</strong> Ignorance." (4)<br />

Hadhrat Faatima bint Utba ~G$&$j Pledges<br />

Allegiance<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha lB3W narrates that Hadhrat Faatima bint Utba bin Rabee'ah<br />

lB3W came to pledge her allegiance at <strong>the</strong> hand <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @@.<br />

Rasulullaah asked her to pledge that she would not ascribe partners to<br />

Allaah, will not fornicate and added all <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r clauses mentioned in <strong>the</strong> verse<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ~ur'aan(~) Out <strong>of</strong> modesty, Hadhrat Faatima bin Utba lBW2j placed her<br />

hand on her head, an act that impressed Rasulullaah @&. Hadhrat Aa'isha<br />

<strong>the</strong>n said to her, "Confirm this, 0 woman because I swear by Allaah that<br />

all <strong>of</strong> us pledged this." She responded by saying, "In that case, I also accept."<br />

Ahmad and Tirmidhi as mentioned in <strong>the</strong> Tafseer<strong>of</strong> Ibn Ka<strong>the</strong>er (Vo1.4 Pg.352).<br />
