Rasulullaah W ' s caller announced that we should march in pursuit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

enemy, I said to my bro<strong>the</strong>r or he said to me, 'Can we miss this opportunity to<br />

march with Rasulullaah m?' By Allaah! Although we had no transport to ride<br />

and we were both heavily wounded, we went with Rasulullaah @@. Since my<br />

wounds were less serious than my bro<strong>the</strong>r's, I carried him when he could not<br />

manage and he walked at o<strong>the</strong>r times. In this manner, we eventually reached <strong>the</strong><br />

place where <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Muslims were."<br />

<strong>The</strong> Wounds Sustained by Hadhrat Baraa bin<br />

Maalik %,Gwj and How he Lost <strong>the</strong> Flesh on his<br />

Bones<br />

Hadhrat Anas %,GWj reports that during <strong>the</strong> battle against Musaylama<br />

(Kadhaab), Hadhrat Baraa 3G+&> threw himself on to <strong>the</strong> people in <strong>the</strong> orchard<br />

(<strong>the</strong> defenders <strong>of</strong> Musaylama locked <strong>the</strong>mselves in an orchard. Hadhrat Baraa<br />

!&2Bw scaled <strong>the</strong> wall <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> orchard to get in and) He <strong>the</strong>n fought <strong>the</strong>m<br />

(single-handedly) until he was able to open <strong>the</strong> gate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> orchard. Hadhrat<br />

Baraa !51Gtx sustained over eighty arrow and sword wounds and had to be<br />

carried away to <strong>the</strong> camp for treatment. Hadhrat Khaalid %,GW stayed with him<br />

(and nursed him) for a month.<br />

Hadhrat Is'haaq bin Abdullaah bin Abu Talha %.lG@ narrates that Hadhrat Anas<br />

%.lG@j and his bro<strong>the</strong>r were (fighting) at an enemy fortress in Hareeq, a place in<br />

Iraq. <strong>The</strong> Kuffaar were throwing hooks fixed to heated chains and when it caught<br />

hold <strong>of</strong> someone, <strong>the</strong>y would pull him up to <strong>the</strong>m (in <strong>the</strong> fortress). <strong>The</strong>y managed<br />

to get hold <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Anas W@!G in this manner (and were pulling him in).<br />

However, Hadhrat Baraa !&2Gw<br />

advanced, kept watch at <strong>the</strong> wall (for an<br />

opportunity) and <strong>the</strong>n grabbed at <strong>the</strong> chain. He kept holding on to <strong>the</strong> (burning<br />

hot) chain until <strong>the</strong> rope gave way. When he <strong>the</strong>n looked at his hand, <strong>the</strong> bone<br />

was visible because all <strong>the</strong> flesh on it had burnt away. In this way, Allaah had<br />

saved Hadhrat Anas bin Maalik %X.%. (2)<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration states that <strong>the</strong> hooks caught Hadhrat Anas bin Maalik %.l.Gw<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Kuffaar started pulling at him until he was lifted <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> ground. While his<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>r Hadhrat Baraa %GW was fighting <strong>the</strong> enemy, he was told to catch hold<br />

<strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r. He came running, jumped on to <strong>the</strong> wall and grabbed <strong>the</strong> chain as<br />

it kept turning. He <strong>the</strong>n kept tugging <strong>the</strong> chain from <strong>the</strong> Kuffaar with his hands<br />

burning until <strong>the</strong> rope finally gave way. <strong>The</strong>reafter when he looked at his hands<br />

and saw that <strong>the</strong> bone was visible because all <strong>the</strong> flesh on it had burnt away. (3)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Desire for Martyrdom and Praying for it<br />

Rasulullaah @@ Wishes to be Killed in <strong>the</strong> path <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Abu Hurayra %,G+=<br />

reports that he heard Rasulullaah @@ say, "1 swear<br />
