and struck at Hadhrat Ubaydah @,Wjls leg with his sword, severing his calf.<br />

Hadhrat Ali wm and Hadhrat Hamza ~ , G W <strong>the</strong>n returned and settled Utba's<br />

affair. <strong>The</strong>y<strong>the</strong>ncarriedHadhrat Ubaydah Wm away to Rasulullaah @%% beneath<br />

a canopy. When <strong>the</strong>y made him over to Rasulullaah $$@, <strong>the</strong> Nabi <strong>of</strong> Allaah<br />

made him lie down. Rasulullaah k!@!$ took his head on his lap and started to<br />

wipe <strong>the</strong> dust from his face when Hadhrat Ubaydah %Wj said, "0 Rasulullaah<br />

@%! Had Abu Taalib seen me now, he would be convinced that his words are<br />

more applicable to me than him when he said (with regards to protecting<br />

Rasulullaah w):<br />

We shall protect him until we are wounded and fa// dead around him<br />

Being total& oblivious <strong>of</strong> our own children and wives"<br />

Hadhrat Ubaydah 3,- <strong>the</strong>n asked, "Am I not a martyr?" "Certainly," replied<br />

Rasulullaah @@, "and I am witness to <strong>the</strong> fact." He <strong>the</strong>n passed away.<br />

Rasulullaah @@ buried him in (a valley called) Safraa and himself went into <strong>the</strong><br />

grave (to lay <strong>the</strong> body). Rasulullaah had never before that entered <strong>the</strong><br />

grave <strong>of</strong> any person. (')<br />

Hadhrat Zuhri narrates that when Hadhrat Ubaydah 3Wj and Utba exchanged<br />

blows, <strong>the</strong> blow <strong>of</strong> each one incapacitated <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r. Returning to <strong>the</strong> battlefield,<br />

Hadhrat Ali %&iGj and Hadhrat Ham~a%iX5~ approached Utba and killed him.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y <strong>the</strong>n carried <strong>the</strong>ir companion away. When <strong>the</strong>y came to Rasulullaah @@,<br />

Hadhrat Ubaydah ?Z4,w's leg was severed and his arteries were bleeding<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>usely. When <strong>the</strong> two men brought Hadhrat Ubaydah !23w to Rasulullaah<br />

@&, he asked, "Am I not a martyr, 0 Rasulullaah m?"Certainly," came <strong>the</strong><br />

reply. Hadhrat Ubaydah WS!Gj <strong>the</strong>n said, "Had Abu Taalib been alive, he would<br />

be convinced that his words are more applicable to me than him when he said:<br />
