Rasulullaah @@! (Tell me about) A person who proceeds in Jihaad with <strong>the</strong><br />

intention <strong>of</strong> earning some worldly pr<strong>of</strong>its?" Rasulullaah @@ repeated, "He shall<br />

not be rewarded." Again regarding this to be a very serious matter, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong><br />

@,GWj instructed <strong>the</strong> person to again repeat <strong>the</strong> question. <strong>The</strong> man asked for<br />

<strong>the</strong> third time, "0 Rasulullaah @@! (Tell me about) A person who proceeds in<br />

Jihaad with <strong>the</strong> intention <strong>of</strong> earning some worldly pr<strong>of</strong>its?" Rasulullaah @@<br />

again repeated, "He shall not be rewarded." (')<br />

Hadhrat Abu maa amah !3Gw narrates that a man approached Rasulullaah @&<br />

with <strong>the</strong> query, "Tell me about a person who wages Jihaad in search <strong>of</strong> fame and<br />

fortune. What is <strong>the</strong>re for him?" "<strong>The</strong>re shall be nothing for him," replied<br />

Rasulullaah @@. When <strong>the</strong> man repeated his question three times, Rasulullaah<br />

@@ replied each time, "<strong>The</strong>re shall be nothing for him." <strong>The</strong>reafter, Rasulullaah<br />

@@ added, "Allaah accepts only those actions that are carried out solely for<br />

Him, through which His pleasure is sought." (2)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Story <strong>of</strong> Quzmaan<br />

Hadhrat Aasim bin Arnr bin Qataadah B,Gw narrates that a man lived amongst<br />

<strong>the</strong>m whose identity no one really knew. He was only known as Quzmaan.<br />

Whenever his name was mentioned, Rasulullaah k%% used to say, "He is from<br />

<strong>the</strong> inmates <strong>of</strong> Jahannam." He fought very fiercely during <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud and<br />

single-handedly killed seven to eight Mushrikeen. He was a true warrior.<br />

However, he was eventually incapacitated by a nasty wound. When he was<br />

carried to <strong>the</strong> Banu Zafar district, many Muslims said to him, "You fought with<br />

great courage today, 0 Quzmaan! Glad tidings to you!" He said, "Glad tidings for<br />

what? By Allaah! I fought only for <strong>the</strong> good name <strong>of</strong> my people. Had it not been<br />

for this, I would never have fought." When his wound became too much for him<br />

to bear, he took an arrow from his quiver and used it to commit suicide. (')<br />

<strong>The</strong> Story <strong>of</strong> Usayram<br />

It is reported that Hadhrat Abu Hurayra ~,Gm used to <strong>of</strong>ten ask (<strong>the</strong> people<br />

around him), "Tell me about <strong>the</strong> person who entered Jannah without ever<br />

performing a single salaah?" When <strong>the</strong> people were unable to identify <strong>the</strong><br />

person, <strong>the</strong>y asked Hadhrat Abu Hurayra B,Gw about him. Hadhrat Abu Hurayra<br />

!ZWWj would <strong>the</strong>n say, "He was Usayram from <strong>the</strong> Banu Abdul Ash'hal tribe<br />

(whose real name was) Amr bin Thaabit bin Qais."<br />

(One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> narrators) Hadhrat Husayn says that when he asked Hadhrat<br />

Mahmood bin Labeed about <strong>the</strong> story <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Usayram %,Gwj, he narrated,<br />

"He always refused to accept Islaam when his people invited him. On <strong>the</strong> day that<br />

<strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Uhud was fought, it suddenly occurred to him to accept Islaam and<br />

he did so. He <strong>the</strong>n took his sword and proceeded until he entered <strong>the</strong> flanks <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> enemy. <strong>The</strong>re he fought until a wound crippled him. As some people from <strong>the</strong><br />
