Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>n accepted her pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance in conformance with <strong>the</strong><br />

verse <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan. ('I<br />

Hadhrat Azza bint Khaabil @?JGwj pledges<br />

Allegiance to Rasulullaah k$@$<br />

Hadhrat Azza bint KhaabilG8WBGj approached Rasulullaah @%% and pledged that<br />

she would not fornicate, would not steal and would not bury her children alive<br />

nei<strong>the</strong>r in public nor in secrecy. Hadhrat Azza @W&j says, "I knew well what<br />

Rasulullaah @% meant by publicly b.urying children alive but I did not ask<br />

Rasulullaah rn what burying <strong>the</strong>m alive in secrecy meant, nei<strong>the</strong>r did he<br />

inform me. However, it occurred to me that it refers to spoiling children. By<br />

Allaah! I shall never spoil any child <strong>of</strong> mine." (2)<br />

Hadhrat Faatima bint Utba ~~ Pledges Allegiance<br />

Along with her Sister Hadhrat Hind who was<br />

<strong>the</strong> Wife <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan %&Z&j<br />

Hadhrat Faatima bint Utba bin Rabee'ah bin Abdish Shams !S3W% narrates that<br />

Hadhrat Abu Hudhayfa bin Utba SX% took her along with (her sister) Hadhrat<br />

Hind bint Utba lBG&!2j to Rasulullaah @@ so that <strong>the</strong>y could pledge <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

allegiance to him. Rasulullaah @@ took <strong>the</strong>ir promises and made some<br />

conditions with <strong>the</strong>m. Hadhrat Faatima bint Utba lEW2B5 <strong>the</strong>y asked Rasulullaah<br />

w A, "0 my cousin! Have you noticed any <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se evils or deficiencies in your<br />

people?" Hadhrat Abu Hudhayfa 8Wj said, "Be quiet and make your pledge! It<br />

is with <strong>the</strong>se words and conditions that <strong>the</strong> pledge <strong>of</strong> allegiance is made.<br />

Hadhrat Hind W%@!GS <strong>the</strong>n said, "I shall not pledge to abstain from stealing<br />

because I steal from my husband." At this, both she and Rasulullaah @@ held<br />

back until Rasulullaah sent someone to (her husband) Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan<br />

BGWj to get him to permit her (to take from his possessions without seeking<br />

permission). Hadhrat Abu Sufyaan ~,!%% permitted her to take from <strong>the</strong> wet<br />

things (referring to foodstuffs) but did not permit her to take from <strong>the</strong> dry things<br />

(referring to non-food items such as money and clothing) or from luxuries.<br />

<strong>The</strong> two ladies <strong>the</strong>n pledged allegiance to Rasulullaah @@. Hadhrat Faatima<br />

bint Utba G8WBGj <strong>the</strong>n said to Rasulullaah &%%, "<strong>The</strong>re was not a tent that I<br />

hated more than your tent and I wished that Allaah would destroy it and<br />

everything in it. However, I now wish more for your tent than any o<strong>the</strong>r that<br />

Allaah should make it prosperous and full <strong>of</strong> blessings. Rasulullaah @?% commented,<br />

"This ought to be because I swear by Allaah that none <strong>of</strong> you can have true Imaan<br />

until I am more beloved to him than even his children and parents." (3)<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha l@Z@!% narrates that when Hadhrat Hind bint Utba lBGW5 came<br />

to pledge allegiance to Rasulullaah w, he looked at her hands and said, "Go<br />
