THE LIVES OF THE SAHABAH %r-5 (Vol-I) 407<br />

Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob !BW says, "We Ansaar wished that we had said what<br />

Miqdaad B!&M had said. This would have been more beloved to us than having<br />

an abundance <strong>of</strong> wealth." It was <strong>the</strong>n that Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> following verse <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Qur'aan:<br />

Just as your Rabb took you (0 Muhammad<br />

-<br />

@%$) from your home with<br />

<strong>the</strong> truth (with good cause to fight <strong>the</strong> battle) while <strong>the</strong>re was certainly<br />

a group <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mu'mineen who were unhappy (to fight <strong>the</strong> K~ffaar<br />

because <strong>the</strong>y were not prepared for battle). {Surah Anfaal, Lerse s)(')<br />

Hadhrat Anas WiW narrates that when Rasulullaah @@ consulted with <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> itBW&j to march to Badr, Hadhrat Abu Bakr gave his opinion (in<br />

favour <strong>of</strong> marching). Rasulullaah @@ again asked for opinions and Hadhrat<br />

Umar HX% gave his. When Rasulullaah @@ again asked for opinions,<br />

someone from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar said, "0 assembly <strong>of</strong> Ansaar! It is your opinion that<br />

Rasulullaah wants." A person from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar <strong>the</strong>n said, "In that case, 0<br />

Rasulullaah @& (if we have to fight <strong>the</strong>m),<br />

we shall not say to you what <strong>the</strong> Bani<br />

Israa'eel said to Moosa when <strong>the</strong>y told him, 'You and your Rabb both go<br />

ahead and fight. We ;hall remain sitting here.' In fact, we shear by <strong>the</strong> Being Who<br />

sent you with <strong>the</strong> truth that we shall follow you even if you travel to (<strong>the</strong> distant<br />

city <strong>of</strong>) Barkul Ghimaad (in Yemen)." (2)<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration from Hadhrat Anas states that when Rasulullaah<br />

heard about <strong>the</strong> arrival <strong>of</strong> (<strong>the</strong> caravan <strong>of</strong>) Abu Sufyaan, he consulted with <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> -. When Hadhrat Abu Bakr ~,Wj voiced his opinion (to march),<br />

Rasulullaah @@ turned away from him. <strong>The</strong>reafter, when Hadhrat Umar %3W%<br />

voiced his opinion, Rasulullaah @%$ turned away from him as well. Hadhrat Sa'd<br />

bin Ubaadah !@Mi% (from <strong>the</strong> Ansaar) <strong>the</strong>n said, "It is our opinion that<br />

Rasulullaah @$?@wants." Addressing Rasulullaah @@, he <strong>the</strong>n said, "I swear by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Being Who controls my life! If you command us to ride our animals into<br />

<strong>the</strong> sea, we shall readily do'so and if you command us to travel to (<strong>the</strong> distant<br />

city <strong>of</strong>) ~arkul Ghimaad (in Yemen), we shall certainly do so." It was only <strong>the</strong>n<br />

that Rasulullaah @& gave <strong>the</strong> command (for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i+EW&i to march). (3)<br />

Hadhrat Alqama bin Waqqaas Laythi ?&w narrates that after leaving for Badr,<br />

when he reached a place called Rowhaa, Rasulullaah @%% addressed <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> i@!S&-% asking, "What is your opinion?" Hadhrat Abu Bakr ?&W responded<br />

by mentioning <strong>the</strong> news that had reached <strong>the</strong>m about <strong>the</strong> extensive battle<br />

preparations that Mushrikeen had made. When Rasulullaah &%@again asked for<br />
