The bombing offensive against <strong>the</strong> German rail system was ordered by General<br />

Eisenhower. Its main purpose was to deny supplies to <strong>the</strong> German army. At<br />

Celle (above lef) and Fulda (above right) and Ulm (below), railroad marshaling<br />

yards were hit. The railroad bridges at Celle were dropped by Ninth <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong><br />

medium bombers. The marshaling yards at Muhldorf (right) in sou<strong>the</strong>rn<br />

Germany were punished by <strong>the</strong> Fifteenth <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong>. Cologne (below right) and<br />

Berlin marshaling yards were hit by <strong>the</strong> Eighth <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Force</strong> and <strong>the</strong> RAF.
