Configuring Log File, Directory Monitors
Each record is one line – select this option to use one line at a
time operating mode. In this mode each line read from the
file is treated as a single log file entry and is processed
individually.
PERL expression defines record – select this option to use
arbitrary record-based mode. In this mode a Perl expression
is used to determine where each record in the file starts and
ends. The expression is applied to the data as it is read, and
records are picked out as they are found. Entries that exceed
the specified maximum record size are ignored.
If you select Perl expression defines record, the following
additional fields are displayed:
Max Record Length – Enter the maximum record length.
Entries that exceed this length are ignored.
Record Format (PERL) – Enter the Perl expression defining
the record, including the delimiter character.
Unit Measure – Specifies the units to use when displaying the
metric.
Inactivity Sample Count – If the Log File data source detects that
the monitored log file does not log any new information for the
number of sample counts you enter here, a sample failure will
result.
File/Directory Must Exist – Select to check that the file/directory
exists.
Directory Range – Specify whether to monitor all directories
including sub directories or to monitor only the top directory.
This field applies to all metric types except File/Directory
Existence monitors.
Sample Continuously – Select to sample continuously. This field
is only available when Metric Type is Perl Expression value.
