Oftentimes, slaves do not earn currency, but<br />

are given enough food to remain alive. If they are<br />

paid, then they earn less than 4 s.p. per day. Slaves<br />

may be purchased in Chapter 9: Equipment. For each<br />

task with which a slave becomes proficient, 10 AP<br />

are acquired. Additionally, for each day that a slave<br />

does not get beaten or flogged, they must have done<br />

something right, and so they acquire 1 AP. Children<br />

are popular slaves, especially abandoned female children.<br />

To determine the duties of a slave, roll 1d100<br />

Guild: None. The master of a slave, naturally,<br />

may belong to a guild. A master may teach<br />

their occupation to their slave, but a slave cannot<br />

legally become a head of a shop or a guild official.<br />

To determine the occupation of the master,<br />

determine the master’s Social Class (see Chap. 6:<br />

Sociality), and roll on the appropriate table in the<br />

beginning of this chapter. Reroll nonsensical results,<br />

such as a master beggar.<br />

The Aedile must determine the culture of<br />

the master. Slaves in a bugbear society are shaven,<br />

numbered, and cataloged. A number is burned into<br />

their back to identify them, and the number is registered<br />

with the master and community. Every morning,<br />

slaves must submit to their master or apprentice<br />

for full bodily shaving.<br />
