Butter: This is an important food consisting<br />

of a solid emulsion mainly of fat globules, air<br />

bubbles, and water droplets made to coalesce by<br />

churning the cream obtained from milk and used<br />

especially as a spread on bread and in cooking.<br />

Cabbage: Also called, “big head,” this vegetable<br />

is a biennial herb that has a dense head of<br />

leaves, a short stem, and additional edible leaves. The<br />

leaves are large and may be wrinkled or smooth.<br />

Cabbage is the most common, and most despised,<br />

vegetable.<br />

Carrot: This is a common name for both<br />

the plant and its root. The root is the edible portion<br />

of the plant. Carrots grow in the ground. The<br />

color of a carrot is orange.<br />

Caviar: The eggs of lumpfish and sturgeon<br />

are edible, expensive, bitter, and an acquired taste.<br />

More specifically, the eggs of a specific sturgeon<br />

called the beluga are significantly more expensive,<br />

selling for 200 silver pieces per pound.<br />

Celery: The stalks are eaten raw or cooked<br />

as a vegetable or part of a salad. Grown naturally,<br />

the stalks are greenish in color and have a bitter taste.<br />

Cheese: This is curd that has been separated<br />

from whey, consolidated by molding for soft<br />

cheese or subjected to pressure for hard cheese, and<br />

ripened for use as a food. Numerous kinds of cheese<br />

are available, such as Brie, Camembert, Muenster,<br />

cheddar, and Gouda.<br />

Cherry: This fruit grows on a cherry tree.<br />

Cherries range in taste from sweet to sour. The tree<br />

grows as high as 50 feet tall. Each cherry contains a<br />

single seed.<br />

Chestnut: This fruit grows on a chestnut<br />

tree. The nut is edible.<br />

Egg, chicken: This is the hard-shelled reproductive<br />

body produced by a chicken, though<br />

other birds produce eggs as well. The content of<br />

an egg is used as food. Most often, it is cracked<br />

open, the contents are spilled into a pan, and the<br />

dead embryonic chicken is cooked.<br />

Fig: This fruit comes from a fig tree. Fig<br />

trees are usually 15-25 feet tall. Figs may be sold<br />

fresh or dried.<br />

Fish: A wide variety of fish may be found<br />

in bodies of water. The types of fish differ depending<br />

on the body of water. Most of this variation<br />

depends on whether it is saltwater or freshwater.<br />

Fish are caught, cleaned, cooked, and eaten.<br />

Grain for horses: This consists of small,<br />

hard seeds such as wheat and oats. Horses eat grain.<br />

Oats are reserved for livestock, however they can<br />

be consumed as gruels, porridges, and additives to<br />

soups and stews.<br />

Grape: This fruit grows on a grapevine. A<br />

popular food, the juice of grapes is also used to make<br />

wine. Grapes vary widely in taste.<br />
