Bashing Doors<br />

The act of bashing a door is not a skill, but<br />

simply an event in which physics is involved. In<br />

order for a character to bash through a door, simply<br />

consider their weight and Sprint Speed, although a<br />

character may jog or run instead. Multiply the<br />

character’s weight x Sprint Speed, and multiply the<br />

result by 0.046. The result is the Newtons 1 of Force<br />

of impact.<br />

Newtons of Force = (weight) x (Sprint<br />

Speed) x (0.046)<br />

Next, consider the type of wood 2 of the<br />

door, thickness in inches, and whether or not it is<br />

reinforced. Consult the table below:<br />

Multiply the ‘Bashing TH’ times the number<br />

of inches of the door’s thickness. For a character<br />

to bash through a door, they must have a number<br />

of Newtons of Force that meets or exceeds the<br />

‘Bashing TH’.<br />

If the ‘Bashing TH’ is met or exceeded, then<br />

the latch gives and the door opens. If it is exceeded<br />

by 1.5 times, then the door is removed from its<br />

hinges, the latch gives, and the door falls down.<br />

Twice the TH causes the wood of the door to shatter.<br />

If a character is unable to bash through a<br />

door, then the character may be able to break it down<br />

in repeated attempts, as long as their Newtons of<br />

Force meets or exceeds the ‘Damage TH’, which<br />

must be multiplied by the number of inches of the<br />

door’s thickness.<br />

If a character’s Newtons of Force are below<br />

the ‘Damage TH’, then the character is unable<br />

to bash through the door, even with repeated attempts.<br />

If a character is able to damage the door as<br />

determined above, then divide their Newtons of<br />

Force by 100. This is the number of IP in damage<br />

that are done.<br />

For each failed attempt at bashing a door, a<br />

character has a 25% chance of self-injury. If injured,<br />

then a character loses 10% of their LP and<br />

the injured shoulder may not be used for bashing<br />

for 2d10 hours. A character with an injured shoulder<br />

may use their other shoulder.<br />

A door may be barred. The ‘Bashing TH’<br />

of a barred door is increased by half. Doors have<br />

only 1 bar, and it is made of the same type and thickness<br />

of wood as the door.<br />

A door may be buttressed. The ‘Bashing<br />

TH’ of a buttressed door is increased by half. A<br />

buttressed door is one in which supports are placed<br />

against the door.<br />

If the hinges of the door are on the side of<br />

the basher, then the ‘Bashing TH’ is increased by 1/<br />

The wood of the door may be affected negatively<br />

by moisture and age. The Aedile must decide<br />

a percentile penalty.<br />

For example: Andrew Clavell, a human,<br />

weighs 189 lbs. and has a Sprint Speed of 72. He<br />

attempts to bash through a pine door that is 1-inch<br />

thick, and he has 625 Newtons of Force (189 x 72 x<br />

0.046). Because the TH for the door is 600, he bashes<br />

instantly through the door.<br />

2. Wood types are European trees suitable for doors. The Specific Gravity of the wood was considered so that the difficulty<br />

of bashing a door is somewhat realistically relevant to the strength and weight of the wood.<br />
