PRIMER SETS - ADVANCED REAGENTS FOR DETECTION
Inhibitors of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) are common leading to considerable blunting of
the potentially exquisite sensitivity of this method. Such false-negative results pass unrecognized
unless an internal (amplification) control is routinely included in the test. Primer Sets from
Novocastra normally consist of a pair of oligonucleotide primers and an internal control template.
The target DNA and internal control DNA co-amplify with the same primers but yield products of a
different size. The PCR products may be resolved on an agarose gel, giving a rapid, sensitive test
at low cost. Each primer set has been tested in conventional heated block instruments, as well as
capillary air thermal cyclers and comes with detailed instructions and sample preparation advice.
