adult education programs in order to be eligible to receive a State adult education<br />

grant; providing for the manner <strong>of</strong> calculation <strong>of</strong> certain county contributions for<br />

adult education funding; providing that a county’s local contribution to adult<br />

education program funding may include certain contributions <strong>of</strong> private donors<br />

and the federal government; requiring the State Department <strong>of</strong> Education to<br />

distribute competitive grants for certain adult education and literacy services in<br />

accordance with the State Plan for Adult Education and Family Literacy; requiring<br />

that certain State grants for adult education programs be based on need and<br />

performance; requiring the State Board <strong>of</strong> Education to adopt certain regulations;<br />

defining certain terms; and generally relating to establishing a funding formula for<br />

adult education and literacy services.<br />

AN ACT concerning<br />

Hometown Heroes Act <strong>of</strong> <strong>2007</strong> – Income Tax – Subtraction Modification for<br />

Retirement Income <strong>of</strong> Law Enforcement, Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services<br />

Personnel<br />

FOR the purpose <strong>of</strong> providing a subtraction modification under the <strong>Maryland</strong> income tax<br />

for certain public safety retirement income attributable to an individual’s<br />

employment as a law enforcement <strong>of</strong>ficer or the individual’s service as fire,<br />

rescue, or emergency services personnel; defining a certain term; providing for the<br />

application <strong>of</strong> this Act; and generally relating to a subtraction modification under<br />

the <strong>Maryland</strong> income tax for certain retirement income attributable to an<br />

individual’s employment as a law enforcement <strong>of</strong>ficer or the individual’s service<br />

as fire, rescue, or emergency services personnel.
