l. THE CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE
1 Every man in this world should ponder
how God has moulded each and every one of us,
how He has created our soul in His own image,
and has endowed it with memory, understanding, and a free will.
5 No master desires to have abad servant,
nor to pay him without being served.
God works in the same way with uso
He will not give us glory if we do no good.
9 Servants go through the year serving us,
and for a pittance put up with a thousand vexations.
God should have His bit from uso
We must serve Him to receive His glory.
13 1 know not of wheat harvested without being sown,
and generally each reaps what he sows.
Fine works will have their ample reward,
and sin is also sure to have its punishment.
17 Since God rewards us every day,
we too should remember Him in gratitude,
and ponder how He is our beginning and end,
and how we should particularly praise His name night and day.
At night
21 At night, when retiring, entrust thyself to God,
and ask Him to protect thee frorn all evil.
When thou awakest, remember then
to recite thy prayers with devotion.
In the morning
25 Go to church in the morning if thou canst;
entrust thyself to God in His holy house,
and when entering, ponder upon who stands before thee,
and with whom thou speakest while there.
