Dumnezeu (cf. III Regi XVII, 20-22). 19 Evenimentul
veterotestamentar are o dimensiune eshatologică în Epistola lui
Iacob. Autoritatea lui Dumnezeu asupra tuturor lucrurilor şi
naţiunilor este aceeaşi care îi porunceşte profetului să devină
instrumentul pedepsei şi săvârşirii ei. Cei „trei ani şi şase luni”
(ejniautouV" trei'" kaiV mh'na" e{x) au devenit un simbol şi în Noul
Testament (vezi Luca IV, 25) şi pentru că perioada reprezintă
jumătatea lui şapte, care era asimilat atât cu perfecţiunea, cât şi cu
sfârşitul unei perioade a judecăţii (Daniel VII, 25; XII, 7;
Apocalipsa XI, 2; XII, 14: o vreme şi vremuri şi jumătate de
vreme). Comparaţia este sugestivă şi subliniază aceeaşi idee:
pământul care nu primeşte apa ploii este uscat şi epuizat şi se
aseamănă creştinului aflat în suferinţă. Atunci când, prin puterea
rugăciunii, Dumnezeu coboară ploaie din cer, întregul pământ
renaşte la viaţă şi devine fecund, ca şi persoana care, în urma
rugăciunii Bisericii, este tămăduită. Stăruinţa lui Ilie în rugăciune îl
încurajează pe fiecare creştin să facă acelaşi lucru, în special pe cel
aflat în necaz şi suferinţă. 20
Abstract: The Sense of the Sufferance and of the Church’s
Prayers for the Sick within the Epistle of Saint James (v, 13-18)
The Catholic Epistle of Saint James is one of the most important
and suggestive ethical texts within the canon of the New
Testament. In the final section of the writing (V, 13-18), the author
exposes the Christian teaching about prayer, healing and repenting.
It is the power and the importance of Church’s prayers that work
as a whole in order to heal the sickness of the person who is
suffering. On one hand, there is a very close connection between
faith and healing. On the other hand, the text confesses about the
practice of the Sacrament of Holy Unction/ Anointing during the
time of the Saint Apostles and even in Jesus’ time. The Holy Spirit
is communicated to the faithful sick persons throughout the priests’
prayers, healing their bodies and their souls, „in the name of God”.
