ABSTRACT
When we peer into the Turkish poem, in the period of Republic, from the
point of view of theme features, we encounter so much diversity. The theme of
mother is one of the basic theme of Turkish poem. The mother, turns to an image in
Turkish poem in the period of Republic, is a wide range of subject. Mother enters in
the poems as kindness, and compassion, tenderness, love, protector, merciful, the
safest shelter, traditional mother and woman image fit in with each other.
Besides, the mother, as a theme in Turkish poems in the period of Republic,
most of the poems are gathered from different subjects and theme in the same poem.
Poets tell their impressions, thoughts and feelings on domestic and foreign world, by
way of their mothers. We can explain the mother as a first teacher in daily life and
individual development, in this context she is the centre of so much sensitivity. Since
she is an important bridge between other feelings and thoughts, is performed in the
poems. The poems of mother theme, mostly carry the power of effect of the poets’
lives with their mother. The poets, whose mothers passed away in their early young
years, with the grief of losing their mothers early and missing her, combines with the
theme of death in their poems. While they are telling how they felt the lonliness
about their mothers’ death, they indicate their mothers with beautiful things; such as
seasons, seas, the sun, nature, spring, everything others, are mother for the poet.
The poets’mothers impressed their different individual characteristics so the
poets, we searched, are examples and models for them.
When the poets mention about their mothers, take shelter from their mothers
while they are telling about the different depressions and difficulties in their lives;
lonesomeness; escaping form daily life and changing world. We see the main axis of
poems are searched, in the third part of this theses, the desire of turning to mother’s
