Associate Degree Nursing — Associate of Applied Science Degree for Direct<br />

Employment<br />

get comprehensive education and practical experience in nursing, and prepare to become licensed as a registered<br />

nurse. students who choose to leave the program before completing the degree may qualify for other certificates.<br />

Complete this program by taking classes in a combination of weekdays and evenings/weekends.<br />

Before enrolling in this program you must meet certain requirements:<br />

this degree program requires a special program application. students may request a program application when all<br />

prerequisites are complete.<br />

To participate in the clinical portion of the program, the students must:<br />

1. obtain an arizona DPs fingerprint Clearance Card.<br />

2. Pass a urine toxicology screening exam.<br />

3. Be able to perform a number of physical activities in the clinical portion of the program. at a minimum, students will<br />

be required to lift patients, stand for several hours at a time and perform bending activities. the clinical nursing<br />

experience also places students under considerable mental and emotional stress as they undertake responsibilities<br />

and duties impacting patients’ lives. students must be able to demonstrate rational and appropriate behavior under<br />

stressful conditions. individuals should give careful consideration to the mental and physical demands of the program<br />

prior to making application.<br />

4. Present proof of immunization or immunity for mmr/Varicella/Hep-B/tDap.<br />

5. show proof of negative tB skin test or negative chest x-ray for tB.<br />

6. maintain health insurance and a CPr card at the Health Care Provider level throughout the program.<br />

licensed Practical nurses with work experience, including graduates from <strong>Pima</strong>’s Center for training and Development,<br />

are eligible to apply for entry into the second year of the associate Degree nursing (aDn) Program by completing the<br />

prerequisites listed above. if accepted, the student must successfully complete a five credit transition course (nrs<br />

188/188lB) and meet all acceptance requirements for admission into the third semester of the associate Degree<br />

nursing (aDn) Program.<br />

Program Transfer and Re-entry<br />

students currently enrolled in another accredited aDn nursing Program wishing to transfer to <strong>Pima</strong>, or students wishing<br />

to re-enter the program, should contact the nursing Department office at 206-6661.<br />

What can I do with this degree?<br />

Career Options: take the national Council licensure Examination (nClEX-rn) to be eligible to work as a registered nurse.<br />

Academic Options: Pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing at a university.<br />
