BIO 250 Biomedical Ethics<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to the nature and scope of decision making in public health, medicine and health care, as it relates to<br />

bioethical issues. Includes overview of dilemmas in bioethics, legal, social and ethical issues in human genetics, the<br />

beginning of life, and the end of life. Also includes life and death decisions, human organ transplantation, and regulations<br />

of human research.<br />

BIO 289 FACES-Fostering and Achieving Cultural Equity and Sensitivity<br />

3-4 cr. hrs. 7-8 periods (1-2 lec., 6 lab)<br />

Introduction to current health care opportunities and issues affecting health care. Includes guided rotations in a hospital<br />

and/or clinic. Also includes a speaker series that focuses on issues of diversity that impact health care in the United States<br />

today and opportunities in the health care professions.<br />

Information: This course is offered in collaboration with the Office of Minority Affairs at the University of Arizona.<br />

BIO 290 Field Biology: Ecological and Environmental Field Experience<br />

1 cr. hrs. 5 periods (5 lab)<br />

Field expeditions in which ecological and environmental principles and concepts are observed and studied. Includes natural<br />

organisms in the field area, biotic communities and ecosystems, human impacts on ecosystems, and the local<br />

government’s role.<br />

May be taken four times for a maximum of four credit hours.<br />

BIO 295LB Independent Research in Biology<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of twelve credit hours.<br />

BIO 296 Special Projects in Biology<br />

BIO 299 Introduction to Co-op: Biotechnology<br />

Principles of job success. Includes biotechnology workplace skills; communication; time and energy management; stress<br />

and its management; careers; placing yourself on the job market; principles, techniques, and practices in the career field;<br />

and problems in the work situation.<br />

Prerequisite(s): BIO 206 and 207 with a grade of B or better.<br />

Corequisite(s): BIO 299WK<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CHM 236 before enrolling in this course.<br />

BIO 299WK Co-op Work in Biotechnology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 15 periods (15 lab)<br />

A supervised cooperative work program for students in the biotechnology industry or academic research. Includes teachercoordinators<br />

working with students and their supervisors in industry or research. Also includes developing competency and<br />

improved self-confidence in the biotechnology workplace.<br />

Prerequisite(s): BIO 206 and 207 with a grade of B or better.<br />

Corequisite(s): BIO 299<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CHM 236 before enrolling in this course.<br />
