PSY 210 Introduction to Biopsychology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Survey of the basic principles of the nervous system function. Includes research methods, theoretical perspectives,<br />

anatomy and functions of the nervous system, and brain function and behavior. Also includes such topics as the biological<br />

basis of sleep and rhythms, stress and health, aggression and violence, and mental disorders.<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSY 100B or 101.<br />

Information: Prerequisite(s) may be waived with consent of instructor before enrolling in the class.<br />

PSY 214 Abnormal Psychology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Overview of the paradigms, diagnosis, disorders, and treatment approaches in the field of abnormal psychology. Includes:<br />

history, models, anxiety and mood disorders, mind and body disorders, psychosis and cognitive functioning disorders, and<br />

life span disorders.<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSY 100A or 101.<br />

PSY 215 Human Sexuality<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examination of human sexual experience throughout the life cycle, viewed from sociological and psychological<br />

perspectives. Includes psychological, sociological, and cultural legacy of sexuality, biological foundations of sexuality,<br />

varieties of sexual behaviors, sexuality and the life cycle, sexual problems, and social issues.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of one of the following before enrolling in this course: PSY 100A, PSY 100B, PSY 101, or<br />

SOC 101.<br />

PSY 216 Psychology of Gender<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Biological and social explanations of gender development and behaviors. Includes research methods used to study gender,<br />

biological sexual differentiation, differential socialization and gender stereotyping, gender differences, limitations of<br />

traditional gender roles, cross-cultural gender issues, and changing gender roles.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of PSY 100A and 100B, or PSY 101 before enrolling in this course.<br />

PSY 218 Health Psychology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Overview of health psychology in relationship to cultural diversity in the United States, and awareness of the universal<br />

aspect of humanity. Includes mind-body relationships, behavior risk factors, and psychosocial aspects of specific disorders.<br />

Also includes health psychology, social, economic, and political dimensions of relationships between and among ethnic and<br />

gender groups.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of PSY 100A or 100B or PSY 101 before enrolling in this course.<br />

PSY 220 The Psychology of Death and Loss<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Adjustment to death and loss. Includes thinking about death, meaning of death, death system, dying, hospice, and endof-life<br />

issues. Also includes suicide, violent death, euthanasia, bereavement, funeral process, near-death experiences, and<br />

death education and counseling.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of PSY 100A or 100B or 101 before enrolling in this course.<br />

PSY 224 Investigating Paranormal Psychology<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Survey of experiments and case studies in paranormal phenomena. Includes extrasensory perception, psychokinesis, and<br />

reports of near-death experiences. Also includes research methodologies and potential applications.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of PSY 100A or 101 before enrolling in this course.<br />

Measurement, quantitative description and statistical inference as applied to psychological variables. Includes scientific<br />

research and statistics, descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, correlation and linear regression, and non-parametric tests.<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSY 100A or 101, and completion of MAT 122 or equivalent with a C or better.<br />
