MKT 140 Fashion Merchandising<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Overview of enterprises involved in clothing and accessories. Includes design, production, and sourcing of fashion;<br />

marketing ,distribution, and the fashion consumer; different silhouettes of apparel and textile characteristics, methods of<br />

research for retailing, careers in fashion merchandising, and case studies. Also includes a managerial perspective on<br />

apparel product quality and profit in a retail setting.<br />

MKT 196 Independent Study in Marketing and Business<br />

.5-3 cr. hrs. 1.5-9 periods (1.5-9 lab)<br />

Student independently continue their studies in Marketing and Business under the supervision of a faculty member.<br />

Consent of instructor is required before enrolling in this course.<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of nine credit hours.<br />

MKT 240 Fashion Merchandising Planning and Control<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Survey of analytical skills for the process of merchandising. Includes evaluation of merchandise in clothing sales,<br />

merchandise planning, developing the presentation of apparel lines, and finalizing apparel lines through merchandising<br />

and budget review.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MKT 140.<br />

Information: Students who have experience in fashion retailing may have the prerequisite waived. See instructor for<br />

information.<br />

MKT 290 Apparel Merchandising Internship<br />

3 cr. hrs. 15 periods (15 lab)<br />

Volunteer apparel merchandising field experience at an approved work site. Includes development of a business plan,<br />

retail strategies, internship goals and evaluation, and report of day-to-day operations.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MKT 240.<br />

Information: Enrollment and placement contigent upon earned grade point average for students in their final semester of<br />

the Apparel Merchandising program. Application and acceptance required.<br />
