GEO 101 Physical Geography: Weather and Climate<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (3 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Introduction to the physical elements. Includes earth-sun relationships, atmospheric processes, global heat balance, global<br />

pressure and temperature patterns, annual weather and climate patterns, weather and air pollution, urban influences on<br />

weather and climate, and climatic change. Also includes weather and people, wave cyclones of middle latitudes, weather<br />

maps and weather prediction, basic ecological principles, and energy.<br />

GEO 102 Physical Geography: Land Forms and Oceans<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (3 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Introduction to the surface of the earth and the forces of nature that shape it. Includes continental drift and plate<br />

tectonics, geomorphic processes, the hydrologic cycle, pollution esthetics of landforms, recreation and other utilization,<br />

and map reading and interpretation.<br />

GEO 103 Cultural Geography<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examination of the human world from a geographic perspective. Includes geography as a discipline, culture and human<br />

geography, the changing Earth, descriptive fundamentals of population geography, migration, and geography of language<br />

and religion. Also includes rural traditions and livelihoods, urban geography, economic changes and industrialization, and<br />

political and medical geography.<br />

Geographic concepts and information organized by conventional regions and nations. Includes geographic perspectives,<br />

physical environment, regions and cultures, realms and population, and the regional framework.<br />

GEO 250 Introduction to Medical Geography<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to the spatial aspects of health and disease. Includes disease mapping, etiology, statistical associations,<br />

health care inequities, and spatial distribution of health care facilities.<br />

GEO 265 Mapping Concepts<br />

Introduction to the practical use of maps. Includes map basics and attributes, scales and measurements, direction,<br />

geographic coordinate systems, relief and contours, and aerial photography.<br />

GEO 267 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Introduction to the technology of geographic information systems. Includes the evolution of technology, system<br />

components, database concepts, applications, and implementation.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ANT/ARC/GEO/GIS 265 or concurrent enrollment.<br />

GEO 284 Computer Cartography and CAD<br />

Cartographic techniques and hardware for computer generation of maps. Includes an introduction, methods and<br />

GEO 296 Independent Studies in Geography<br />
