EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY<br />

EMT 100 Basic Emergency Medical Technology<br />

9 cr. hrs. 11 periods (8 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Techniques of pre-hospital emergency medical care for the emergency medical technician. Includes symptoms of illnesses,<br />

injuries, medical emergencies, appropriate medical techniques and ambulance operations.<br />

Information:<br />

Students must be 18 years of age when class begins.<br />

Students must have CPR certification at the Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer Level.<br />

Students must receive a minimum score of 80 on the <strong>College</strong> Reading Assessment test.<br />

Students must be able to lift 125lbs alone and 250lbs with a partner.<br />

Students must show proof of personal medical insurance.<br />

Students must meet with an advisor or EMT staff/faculty to complete a pre-enrollment worksheet prior to enrollment.<br />

EMT 110 First Responder<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Techniques in pre-hospital emergency care appropriate to the First Responder Scope of Practice. Includes identifying signs<br />

and symptoms associated with illness and traumatic injuries. Also includes intervention used in managing patient and<br />

transfer of patient to higher level medical authority.<br />

Information: This course willl prepare those wishing to enroll in EMT 100. We will cover the DOT curriculum for EMT as<br />

well as the National Registry Practical portion of EMT.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring.<br />

EMT 111 Heartsaver First Aid Provider<br />

.5 cr. hrs. .5 periods (.5 lec.)<br />

Beginning first aid concepts and techniques for the lay person. Includes principles and assessment findings to formulate a<br />

field impression and implement the treatment plan for the patient with either medical or traumatic injuries and complaints.<br />

Includes: first aid general principles, medical, and trauma. Also includes topic options: adult Cardiopulmonary<br />

Resuscitation (CPR), Adult Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and environmental emergencies.<br />

Information: The Heartsaver First Aid and CPR and AED Provider Manuals are required.<br />

EMT 112 Heartsaver Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation<br />

.5 cr. hrs. .5 periods (.5 lec.)<br />

Concepts and techniques to asses and treat patients with airway obstruction, respiratory, and cardiac arrest for the lay<br />

person. Includes the integration of principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement the<br />

treatment plan for the patient with foreign body airway obstruction, respiratory and/or cardiac arrest. Includes choice of<br />

two topics: Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric CPR.<br />

Information: Purchase of the Heartsaver CPR provider manual prior to class is required.<br />

EMT 122 Burn Emergencies<br />

.25 cr. hrs. .25 periods (.25 lec.)<br />

Overview, techniques and skills for burn emergencies. Includes the following topics: general system pathophysiology,<br />

assessment, and management. Also includes current burn emergency trends.<br />

EMT 123 Neurological Emergencies<br />

.25 cr. hrs. .25 periods (.25 lec.)<br />

Concepts, techniques and skills for neurological emergencies. Includes the following neurological topics: general system<br />

pathophysiology, assessment, and management. Also includes integration and current trends in neurological emergencies.<br />

EMT 124 Toxicology Emergencies<br />

EMT 125 Abdominal Trauma<br />

pathophysiology, organ injury assessment and management, organ injuries, pelvic fractures, and current trends in<br />

abdominal trauma.<br />
