FAW 112F1 Ballroom/Latin Dance I<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Introduction to ballroom and Latin dancing with emphasis on basic steps, turns, and varied techniques of traditional<br />

dances. Includes key components of each dance, floorwork/locomotor skills, dancing as a total activity, and evaluation.<br />

Information:<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

Traditional ballroom dances covered are the six majors: Foxtrot, Waltz, East Coast Swing, Tango, Cha Cha, and Rumba.<br />

Other popular social dances that may be covered are the Salsa/Mambo, Night Club Two Step, and West Coast Swing.<br />

This course is intended for recreational ballroom dance and will not be accepted for the Associate of Fine Arts Dance<br />

Concentration.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring.<br />

FAW 112F2 Ballroom/Latin Dance II<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Continuation of FAW 112F1. Includes key components of each dance, floorwork/locomotor skills, dancing as a total<br />

activity, and evaluation. Also includes emphasis on combinations, smooth transitions, and complex rhythmic patterns for<br />

the six major Ballroom dances.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FAW 112F1.<br />

Information:<br />

Other popular social dances that may be covered are the Salsa/Mambo, Night Club Two Step, and West Coast Swing.<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

This course is intended for recreational ballroom dance and will not be accepted for the Associate of Fine Arts Dance<br />

Introduction to Egyptian, Turkish, and American belly dance with emphasis on foot placement and efficient execution of<br />

basic skills. Includes key components of belly dance and dancing as a total activity. Also includes history of belly dance;<br />

dance terminology; developing stamina, strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, and coordination; organizing dancing<br />

patterns into complete routines; and learning to improvise.<br />

This course is intended for recreational belly dance and will not be accepted for the Associate of Fine Arts Dance<br />

Concentration.<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

This course is for those experienced in Belly Dance.<br />

FAW 114 Country Western Dance<br />

Introduction to Country Western dancing with emphasis on dance terminology, rhythms, styles, essential steps and<br />

combinations. Includes key components of Country Western dance, floorwork/locomotor skills, dancing as a total activity,<br />

and evaluation. Also includes developing stamina, strength, balance, coordination, and organizing dancing patterns into<br />

complete routines.<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

This course is intended for recreational Country Western dance and will not be accepted for the Associate of Fine Arts<br />

Dance Concentration.<br />
