MAC 100 Introduction to Machine Tool<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Principles and procedures for basic machine tool operations. Includes careers in manufacturing, machine tool history,<br />

safety, materials, manufacturing process planning, measurement, layout tools and procedures, principles of metal cutting,<br />

bench and hand tools, power saws, drill presses, and abrasive machine.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.<br />

MAC 110 Manual Machine Shop<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (2 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Introduction to basic machine shop practices. Includes safety, lathes, vertical milling machines, and grinding machines.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MAC 100.<br />

Information: Prerequisite maybe waived with a score of 80% or better on the Machine Tool assessment test. See a<br />

machine tool instructor or advisor for prerequisite information.<br />

MAC 120 Machine Shop II<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (2 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Continuation of MAC 110. Includes a more in depth application of safety, lathes, milling machines, and grinding machines.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MAC 110 or equivalent with department advisor approval.<br />

MAC 125 Mechanical Inspection<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (2 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Principles and applications of dimensional measurement. Includes line graduated measuring instruments, fixed gages,<br />

gauge blocks, comparative measurements, optical comparators and projectors, angle measurement, straightness, flatness,<br />

and perpendicularity measurement, and coordinated measuring machines.<br />

Prerequisite(s): GTM 105, and MAC 110.<br />

MAC 130 Machine Setup and Fixture Making<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (1 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Concepts, techniques, and skills in machine setup. Includes how to translate blueprints into fixture making; the application<br />

of machine setup; and the making of fixtures.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MAC 110.<br />

MAC 140 Introduction to Electrical Discharge Machining<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (2 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Application of electrical discharge machining (EDM) in industry today. Includes overview of EDM, EDM machines and<br />

processes, spark generation and dielectric fluids, electrodes, and surface finishes.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MAC 110.<br />

MAC 150 Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Mill Programming I<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (2 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Operations and procedures for automated machining systems. Includes Numerical Control (NC) and Computer Numerical<br />

Control (CNC) machining system, positioning and coordinate systems used in NC/CNC programming, part programming,<br />

diagnosis and correction of programming errors, and programming procedures.<br />

Prerequisite(s): GTM 105 and MAC 110.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of CAD 101 before enrolling in this course.<br />

Information: Industry experience may be substituted for prerequisite requirements. See a machine tool instructor for<br />

prerequisite information.<br />
