FAW 131 Indoor Cycling<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Cardiovascular conditioning set to music and performed on a stationary bicycle. Includes personal safety and preparation,<br />

key concepts, personal fitness assessment and activity modifications, and elements of indoor cycling training. Also includes<br />

determination of cardiovascular endurance level and challenging that system, improving local muscular endurance, and<br />

flexibility.<br />

Information: May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.<br />

FAW 132 Kickboxing<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Total body conditioning using various kickboxing exercises, stations, and equipment that provide a cardiovascular<br />

challenge while emphasizing development of muscular strength and endurance through upper and lower body striking<br />

activities. Includes personal safety and preparation, personal fitness assessment and activity modifications, and kickboxing<br />

skill development.<br />

Information:<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

Students are expected to provide their own bag gloves or hand wraps for contact with the bags and pads.<br />

Music may be used for motivation during the course but this is not a choreographed class.<br />

FAW 134F1 Pilates I<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Introduction to the six core principles of Pilates in individual exercises and sequences of movements. Includes key<br />

components of Pilates, integrative practice and personalizing one’s practice. Also includes total body conditioning to<br />

improve strength, flexibility, coordination, proper body alignment, breath control, and overall body awareness.<br />

Information:<br />

This course does not use reformers and is primarily mat based.<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

FAW 134F2 Pilates II<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Continuation of FAW 134F1. Includes key components of Pilates, six core/essential principles of Pilates exercises,<br />

integrative practice, and personalizing one’s practice.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FAW 134F1.<br />

Information:<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

This course is intended for students who have established a practice of the basic Pilates exercises, does not use<br />

reformers, and is primarily mat based.<br />

Prerequisite(s) may be waived with consent of instructor.<br />

FITNESS AND WELLNESS<br />

FAW 136 Stretch and Tone<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility exercises designed to improve total body fitness with exercises generally set<br />

to music. Includes personal safety and preparation, personal fitness assessment and activity modifications, and techniques<br />

and considerations for exercise.<br />

Information:<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three credit hours.<br />

This course includes some cardiovascular challenge but primary emphasis is on local muscular development (strength<br />

and flexibility) and assessment of personal fitness.<br />

FAW 138F1 Yoga I<br />

1 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lab)<br />

Introduction to stress reduction through yoga. Includes key components of yoga, essential movements and postures,<br />

mind-body practice, and personalizing one’s practice.<br />

Information:<br />

May be taken three times for a maximum of three hours.<br />

There are many styles of yoga and the specific philosophy offered in a given section will reflect that of the instructor;<br />

however, this course is gentle to moderate intensity.<br />
