CIS 182 Introduction to ANSI SQL<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) Structured Query Language (SQL). Includes relational<br />

databases, SQL basic and nomenclature, simple queries, search conditions and sorting, single table query processing and<br />

unions, simple and multi-table joints, summary queries using columns, group queries, and subqueries and query<br />

expressions. Also includes adding, deleting, and modifying data from the database, referential integrity and constraints,<br />

creating databases, creating, removing and modifying tables, and defining constraints.<br />

CIS 183 Introduction to Extensible Markup Language (XML)<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to Extensible Markup Language (XML) which provides a format for describing data and enables the separation<br />

of presentation from data. Includes creating an XML document, binding XML data, document type definition, namespace<br />

and schemas, formatting with Cascading Style Sheets, and introduction to Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation<br />

(XSLT).<br />

Recommendation: Coursework or experience with Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is strongly recommended before<br />

enrolling in this course.<br />

CIS 187 Data Processing Projects I<br />

1-3 cr. hrs. 3-9 periods (3-9 lab)<br />

Provides practical work experience with academic study. Includes problem solving, job site interpersonal relations, and<br />

directed independent studies of computer-related topics. Also includes lab exercises involving operating system tasks,<br />

word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, and the Internet.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of four courses in the Computer Science program before enrolling in this course.<br />

CIS 220 Novell NetWare Networking and Administration<br />

Administration of microcomputer networks using Novell NetWare. Includes review of networking concepts, defining<br />

network objects through directory services, designing the network file system, installing NetWare operating system and<br />

workstation client software, managing users, and installing printing. Also includes implementing electronic messaging,<br />

designing and implementing login scripts, implementing menus system, and managing the network.<br />

Prerequisite(s): CIS 119.<br />

CIS 221 Microsoft Windows Server<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, customize, optimize networks, integrate, and troubleshoot Windows<br />

server. Includes overview of Windows networking, managing Windows server, Windows components, and Internetworking<br />

and Intranetworking. Also includes active directory services, advanced file systems, Windows security, booting Windows,<br />

and Windows application servers.<br />

Prerequisite(s): CIS 103.<br />

Information: Preparation for Microsoft certification examination.<br />

CIS 222 Implementing Windows Network Infrastructure<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Knowledge and skills to install, configure, maintain, and support a Microsoft Windows network infrastructure. Includes<br />

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), traffic<br />

security, remote access, network router, remote installation, connectivity with other operating systems, and Web server.<br />

Prerequisite(s): CIS 221.<br />
