POR 101 Elementary Portuguese I<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Basic linguistic skills of the Portuguese language. Includes article, gender, numerals, present indicative, irregular plurals,<br />

idiomatic expression, commands, the preterite, and cultural traditions. Also includes proficiency in speaking, reading,<br />

writing, and understanding Portuguese.<br />

POR 102 Elementary Portuguese II<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Continuation of POR 101. Includes preterite indicative, imperfect indicative, simple past tenses of indicative, pronominal<br />

verbs, present participle in progressive constructions, subjunctive, and the use of the present, descriptive adjective,<br />

present perfect indicative, conditional verbs, present subjunctive, and cultural traditions. Also includes increased<br />

proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Portuguese.<br />

PORTUGUESE — PROFESSIONAL FLIGHT TECHNOLOGY<br />

PFT 101 Stage One: Ground School<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Knowledge and procedures for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) private pilot ground school certificate. Includes<br />

aerodynamics, instruments and systems, weight and balance, cross-country planning, Airman’s Informational Manual<br />

(AIM), Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS), aircraft/facility directory, radio navigation, weather, safe and efficient operation of<br />

airplanes, and final examination.<br />

PFT 122 Stage Two: Meteorology<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Continuation of PFT 101. Includes an in-depth study of weather elements, weather hazards, aviation weather reports, and<br />

forecasts.<br />

PFT 130 Stage Three: Commercial Ground School<br />

Preparatory course for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Pilot Certification. Includes the information<br />

required to pass the FAA written test for the Commercial Pilot Certificate.<br />

PFT 204 Stage Four: Commercial Pilot (Instrument) Ground School<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Knowledge and procedures for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) instrument pilot certificate. Includes government<br />

publications, radio aids, air traffic control procedures, Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), cross country operations and<br />

procedures, weather theory, aviation weather data, flight instruments and systems, altitude instrument flight, flight<br />

physiology, and final examination.<br />

Prerequisite(s): PFT 101.<br />

Recommendation: Consent of instructor is required before enrolling in this course.<br />

PFT 230 Flight Instructor: Fundamentals of Instruction<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Study of the basic principles of teaching and learning as it applies to the requirements to obtain the Federal Aviation<br />

Administration’s (FAA) Flight Instructor rating. Includes the fundamentals of conveying aeronautical knowledge and skills<br />

to beginning and advanced learners in preparation for FAA examinations.<br />
