NRS 104 Nursing Process I<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Nursing 104 introduces the student to the application of the nursing process and to the concepts of client, health,<br />

environment and nurse with emphasis on caring for the adult and older adult client. This course introduces the student to<br />

behaviors that serve as the basis of effective nursing practice: (1) a safe practitioner, (2) an effective communicator, (3) a<br />

manager/teacher, (4) a culturally competent/caring healthcare provider, and (5) professional and ethical issues of being a<br />

nurse. The student applies nursing theory in the college laboratory and the clinical setting while caring for adults and older<br />

adults in acute-care, long term care and community environments.<br />

Corequisite(s): HCA 102, HCA 155, NRS 104LC, NRS 104LS, WRT 101<br />

Information: Students must be admitted to the PCC Nursing program and obtain consent of the Nursing department<br />

before enrolling in this course.<br />

NRS 105 Nursing Process II<br />

4 cr. hrs. 4 periods (4 lec.)<br />

Continuation of NRS 104. Application of the nursing process and expansion on the concepts of client, health, environment<br />

and nurse, with emphasis on caring for adult clients with common health alterations. Expansion of behaviors that are the<br />

basis of effective nursing practice: (1) safe practitioner, (2) effective communicator, (3) manager/teacher, (4) a culturally<br />

competent/caring healthcare provider, and (5) professional and ethical issues of being a nurse. Includes additional<br />

application of theory in the college laboratory and the clinical setting in acute care environments.<br />

Prerequisite(s): NRS 104, 104LC, and 104LS.<br />

NRS 180 Transition to Practical Nursing<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Theoretical and clinical preparation to qualify the student to apply for licensure by the Arizona State Board of Nursing as a<br />

Practical Nurse (LPN). Includes application of the nursing process in the care of the childbearing family, the pediatric client<br />

and the client experiencing alterations in mental health and cognitive functioning. Also includes additional clinical<br />

laboratory application of selected nursing skills and knowledge in the care of the developing family and child. Also includes<br />

the role of the LPN in relation to the nursing process.<br />

Prerequisite(s): BIO 205, ECE 107 or 117, HCA 102, 155, NRS 104, concurrent enrollment or completion of NRS 105,<br />

and WRT 101.<br />

Corequisite(s): NRS 180LC<br />
