LIT 124 Introduction to Writers of the Southwest<br />

Introduction to reading Mexican-American/Chicano, American Indian, and Anglo writers of the Southwest. Includes short<br />

stories, novels, poetry, and creative non-fiction. Also includes relevant comparisons of social, political, and environmental<br />

themes in different cultures.<br />

Information: Students do not need to have a writing prerequisite.<br />

Survey of science fiction work from the nineteenth through the twenty-first centuries in a variety of forms and media.<br />

Includes the development and components of the genre, its subgenres, and critical analysis of science fiction literary<br />

works. Also includes the role of technology and social issues in science fiction.<br />

Survey of fantasy literature in a variety of and media emphasizing the epic tradition. Includes the development and<br />

components of the fantasy epic and critical analysis of fantasy epic literary works. Also includes the role of mythology and<br />

archetypes in the formation of such works.<br />

Protest and anti-establishment literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in a variety of genres and media.<br />

thinking. May include contemporary Internet and alternative media.<br />

from various literary genres, which may include fiction, drama, and poetry, as well as other literary forms.<br />
