FSC 168 Special Hazard Tactical Problems<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Concepts and techniques designed for the experienced firefighter on successfully mitigating incidents that involve hazards<br />

that are not commonly experienced such as hazardous materials under fire conditions. Other examples may include a train<br />

derailment and biological attack. Also includes real-life incidents in order to learn from prior experiences, as well as<br />

practice with potential scenarios created from the surrounding area.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 153.<br />

FSC 170 Fire Service Leadership<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Practical training for fire service leadership and supervision. Includes decision-making, problem solving, running a<br />

meeting, managing multiple roles, creativity, power, and ethics. Also includes situational leadership, delegation, coaching,<br />

and discipline.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 149.<br />

This course meets National Fire Academy (NFA) requirements for Leadership I, II, and III.<br />

FSC 170A, 170B, and 170C together constitute FSC 170.<br />

FSC 170A Fire Service Leadership I<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Practical training for fire service leadership and supervision. Includes decision-making, problem solving, and running a<br />

Introduction to the elements and qualities of good report writing and comprehensive documentation. Includes form, style,<br />

and methodologies for writing various reports, techniques for developing an accurate narrative, and proper and improper<br />

conclusions. Also includes effective and correct use of grammar and the mechanics of writing.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 149.<br />

FSC 175 Intro to Fire Investigation: Origin and Recognition of Arson<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Basic principles of arson investigation. Includes an introduction to fire investigation, laws, fire causes, determining point of<br />

origin, evidence, fire setters, case investigation and preparation, and courtroom demeanor and testimony.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FSC 149, 150, 151, 165.<br />
