CTE 285 Curriculum Development for Career and Technical Education<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to the design and use of CTE curriculum. Includes standards, standard indicators, performance objectives,<br />

and curriculum mapping. Includes the study of learning styles, designing lessons to encourage appropriate outcomes and<br />

behaviors of all learners, questioning techniques, demonstrations, and field trips. Also includes the application requirement<br />

to demonstrate the process for developing curriculum for a CTE program including: courses of study, syllabi, lesson plans<br />

and assessment.<br />

CTE 287 Instructional <strong>Design</strong> and Methodology for CTE<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Overview of Structured English Immersion (SEI) Foundations. Includes concepts designed to meet state standards for<br />

teachers of English Language Learners (ELLs). Also includes instruction in SEI strategies, teaching with Arizona English<br />

Language Learner (ELL) Proficiency Standards and monitoring ELL student progress using a variety of assessment tools.<br />

Information:<br />

This course is designed for CTE teachers (Grades 7-12) and administrators.<br />

Meets ESL Endorsement and SEI Endorsement requirements in conjunction with other coursework.<br />

Also meets Arizona Department of Education course requirements.<br />

CTE 288 Operation of Career and Technical Student Organizations<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Introduction to developing student leadership via career and technical student organizations (CTSO). Includes how to elect<br />

and train officers, develop an effective program of work, create meaningful agendas, run meetings using parliamentary<br />

procedure, and create constitution and bylaws. Includes the intracurricular nature and legal aspects of advising the CTSO.<br />

Also includes the creation of a plan for the implementation of a CTSO that is appropriate for the CTE program.<br />

CHM 080 Preparation for General Chemistry<br />

Fundamentals of chemistry. Includes nomenclature, atomic structure, bonding, chemical equations, moles, stoichiometry,<br />

the periodic table, conversions, problem-solving techniques and study skills.<br />

Prerequisite(s): MAT 092.<br />

CHM 121IN Chemistry and Society<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (3 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Basic chemistry and its relationship to everyday experiences. Includes classification and structure of matter;<br />

radioactivity; compound formation from elements; electron transfer; acids, bases, and salts; the liquid state; the gas<br />

state; and special topics.<br />

<strong>Design</strong>ed for non-science majors, education majors, and the general public.<br />

IN is the integrated version of the course with the lecture and lab taught simultaneously.<br />

CHM 123IN Chemistry and Art<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (3 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Introduction to the relationship between the physical sciences and the visual arts. Includes an overview of art and science,<br />

material science applied to art and archaeology, color and art, painting, sculpture, photography, and the dimensions of the<br />

relationship between art and science.<br />

CHM 125IN Consumer Chemistry<br />

4 cr. hrs. 6 periods (3 lec., 3 lab)<br />

An overview of the chemistry of everyday products and processes for the non-science major. Includes the chemistry of<br />

toothpaste, deodorants, cosmetics, soaps and detergents, food, toys, paints, plastics and other products commonly found<br />

in the kitchen, laundry, bathroom, bedroom, and workshop. Also includes the process of science and the scientific method.<br />

IN is the integrated version of the course with the lecture and lab taught simultaneously.<br />

No previous chemistry experience is required.<br />
