THE 220 Stage Lighting<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Principles of stage lighting design and practice. Includes historical context, electricity and lamps, fixtures, dimming<br />

equipment, control equipment, color media use and handling, design techniques, special effects and set up, and safety<br />

procedures. Also includes care, maintenance, proper use of lighting equipment, organization of lighting work, and<br />

operation.<br />

THE 222 Stage Lighting Crew<br />

1 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lab)<br />

Organizing, setting up and operating of stage lighting for approved theatrical productions. Includes analysis of designer<br />

information, cost estimates and budgeting, planning and execution of operations, and control board techniques for<br />

rehearsals and performances.<br />

THE 223 Scene <strong>Design</strong><br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Principles of scene design for various types of stage and models of productions. Includes historical context, theater<br />

architecture, scenic elements, design process and research, development of working drawings, perspective rendering,<br />

color use, period styles in furniture and architecture, and script analysis. Also includes cost estimates, material choices,<br />

advanced construction techniques, paint mixing and application techniques, stage furniture overview, and set dressing<br />

and finishing.<br />

THE 245 Principles of Dramatic Structure SUN# THE 2220<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Examination of the structural elements of major dramatic forms and styles. Includes role of the dramaturge; examination<br />

of major themes; analysis of dramatic forms, styles, and actor-audience relationships; visualizing a text; and character<br />

analysis. Also includes analysis of text for language and poetic elements, dramatic criticism, and play production as a<br />

collaborative effort.<br />

THE 250 Intermediate Acting I<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Theory and practice of creating sustained character portrayals through the performance of a series of monologues, chosen<br />

from a broad spectrum of both classical and contemporary theatrical literature. Includes participation in physical and vocal<br />

exercises and improvisations, exercises to expand actor’s instruments, study of Shurtleff theory, nuances of auditions, and<br />

technique of voice over. Also includes performance of audition monologues, audition scenes, audition songs, scenes for an<br />

audition, commercial scripts, and oral report on audition experiences.<br />

Prerequisite(s): THE 103, 111 or concurrent enrollment, 149.<br />

THE 251 Intermediate Acting II<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Performance-oriented class focuses on the practice and theory of pre-realistic styles of acting, and focuses on Shakespeare<br />

through the use of verse and prose. Includes the performance and analysis of Commedia del Arte, Moliere (Neoclassicism),<br />

and Restoration.<br />

Prerequisite(s): THE 104 and 111 or concurrent enrollment, and THE 151 or 250.<br />

THE 296 Independent Studies in Theater<br />

1-4 cr. hrs. 3-12 periods (3-12 lab)<br />

Students work at various assigned tasks in theatrical settings under the guidance of an instructor. Includes the opportunity<br />

for the student to design his/her own project with the instructor’s approval.<br />

May be taken eight times for a maximum of eight credit hours.<br />

Consent of instructor is required before enrolling in this course.<br />
