FASHION DESIGN AND CLOTHING<br />

FDC 135 Fashion Show/Event Planning<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

A survey of fashion direction, publicity and fashion event coordination. Includes development of an event, student fashion<br />

show production, and wrap up.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of FDC 141 before enrolling in this course.<br />

FDC 141 Introduction to Fashion <strong>Design</strong><br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Survey of the business of apparel manufacturing and fashion design. Includes history of the industry, careers in fashion,<br />

designing the garment, influences on design, and organization of a clothing line.<br />

Offered: Fall, Spring.<br />

FDC 142 Restyling and Alterations<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Introduction to techniques for recycling and increasing the life and function of garments. Includes measurement, making,<br />

and fitting, techniques for stitching in alternation and fitting, restyling, repair, and conservation of fabric and garments.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 111.<br />

FDC 144 Fashion Drawing<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Technical drawing of a garment on the fashion figure. Includes working on original designs and presenting them in a<br />

portfolio. Also includes fabrics and how to render them as well as a basic knowledge of garment construction.<br />

Recommendation: Completion of ART 110 or 213 before enrolling in this course.<br />

FDC 196 Independent Studies in Fashion <strong>Design</strong> and Clothing<br />

1-3 cr. hrs. 1.25-6 periods (1-3 lec., .25-3 lab)<br />

Independent projects for continuing individual development in fashion design and clothing under the guidance of a faculty<br />

member.<br />

Information: Consent of instructor is required before enrolling in this course.<br />

FDC 199 Introduction to Co-op: Fashion <strong>Design</strong> and Clothing<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Introduction to the work environment in the Fashion Apparel field. Includes the internship process, applying course work,<br />

oral and written communication skills, and self-management on the job.<br />

Corequisite(s): FDC 199WK<br />

Information:<br />

Consent of instructor of department chair and successful completion of twelve (12) credit hours of FDC course work are<br />

required before enrolling in this course.<br />

May be taken four times for a maximum of four credit hours.<br />

FDC 199WK Co-op Work: Fashion <strong>Design</strong> and Clothing<br />

1-5 cr. hrs. 5-25 periods (5-25 lab)<br />

A supervised work environment in the Fashion Apparel field. Includes completion of hours, knowledge of fashion industry<br />

job site, demonstration of aptitudes and abilities, journal/record of daily experiences and observations, and maintaining a<br />

written and digital contact list.<br />

Corequisite(s): ART 199<br />

Consent of instructor or department chair and successful completion of twelve (12) credit hours of FDC course work are<br />

required before enrolling in this course.<br />

May be taken four times for a maximum of twenty credit hours.<br />

FDC 211 Clothing Construction III<br />

3 cr. hrs. 5 periods (2 lec., 3 lab)<br />

Continuation of FDC 111. Advanced techniques in construction of clothing. Includes pattern layout options, construction<br />

techniques and principles applied to special fabrics, fabric selection for specialty garments, and evaluation.<br />

Prerequisite(s): FDC 111 with a B or better.<br />

Information: Prerequisite may be waived with consent of instructor.<br />
