EDUCATION - SPECIAL EDUCATION<br />

EDS 260 Developmental Reading, Instruction, Assessment, Remediation<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Concepts, techniques and skills to teach struggling readers. Includes the components of reading. Includes the application<br />

of concepts to conduct assessments, instructional and remedial activities for struggling readers. Includes how to<br />

participate in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process to help develop long-range individualized instructional<br />

plans and create short-range goals and objectives considering an individual student’s abilities, needs and learning<br />

environment.<br />

Information:<br />

Same as EDU 260.<br />

Admission to the Post-Degree Teacher Certification Program or Education department permission is required before<br />

enrolling in this course.<br />

Requires a paid subscription to TaskStream electronic portfolio. Additional fees apply.<br />

This class requires a 15-hour special education practicum.<br />

EDS 261 Teaching Methods Learning Disabilities<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Foundations in the field of learning disabilities (LD) and related disabilities. Includes the characteristics of learners, team<br />

collaboration, and current legislation. Includes assessments for diagnosis, placement, and instruction. Also includes<br />

specific remedial techniques for teaching reading, writing, and mathematics to students with LD and Attention Deficit<br />

Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).<br />

Information:<br />

Admission to the Post-Degree Teacher Certification Program or Education department permission is required before<br />

enrolling in this course.<br />

EDS 263 Special Education: Cross Category AEPA Prep<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Overview, concepts, and techniques to prepare for the Arizona Educator’s Proficiency Assessment (AEPA) test in the area<br />

of Special Education-Cross Category specialty. Includes the types and characteristics of a variety of disabilities, assessing<br />

special needs students and developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), promoting student development and learning,<br />

and working collaboratively in a learning community.<br />

Offered: Summer.<br />

EDS 264 Special Education: Learning Disabilities AEPA Prep<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Overview, concepts, and techniques to prepare for the Arizona Educator’s Proficiency Assessment (AEPA) test in the area<br />

Overview of the student teaching experience, Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) Internship. Includes initial discussion,<br />

observation, assessing the learning environments, evaluating educational resources, long and short-term planning, midterm<br />

evaluation, curriculum development and implementation and accommodation to individual needs. Also includes<br />

assessments, parent and community collaboration, portfolio, teamwork, and professional development and evaluation.<br />

Information:<br />

This course requires admission to the Post-Degree Teacher Certification Program and TPP Internship and Education<br />

Department approval prior to registration.<br />

EDS 290A, 290B, 290C, and 290D together constitute EDS 290.<br />
