DHE 160LC Clinical Skills Enhancement I<br />

1-4 cr. hrs. 4-16 periods (4-16 lab)<br />

A clinical remediation course designed to support identified first year dental hygiene students who are performing at or<br />

below clinic course expectations. Includes education plan, development of individualized clinical remediation plan, and<br />

assessment.<br />

Information: Students must be admitted to the PCC Dental Hygiene program and obtain consent of the Dental Hygiene<br />

department before enrolling in this course. May be taken two times for a maximum of eight credit hours.<br />

Offered: May not be offered this year, check class schedule.<br />

DHE 196 Independent Studies in Dental Hygiene<br />

1-4 cr. hrs. 3-12 periods (3-12 lab)<br />

Independent clinical applications, reading, projects, or lab activities for continuing student development in dental hygiene<br />

under faculty guidance.<br />

Information:<br />

May be taken two times for a maximum of eight credit hours.<br />

Consent of instructor is required before enrolling in this course.<br />

DHE 208 Pain and Anxiety Control for Dental Hygiene<br />

1 cr. hrs. 1 periods (1 lec.)<br />

Delivery of local anesthetics. Includes introduction to pain and anxiety control, pharmacology, neurophysiology, and local<br />

anesthetic agents, nitrous oxide and oxygen analgesia, health history and complications, treatment, laboratory practices<br />

on student partners, emergency procedures, and head and neck anatomy.<br />

Prerequisite(s): DHE 119, 120, 122, 132/132LB, 150/150LC.<br />

DENTAL HYGIENE<br />

DHE 213 Advanced Periodontal Services<br />

2 cr. hrs. 2 periods (2 lec.)<br />

Application of dental hygiene skills on advanced periodontal patients. Includes periodontal exam and initial phase,<br />

treatment plan, periodontal classifications, plaque control, scaling and root planning indications and limitations, sonic and<br />

ultrasonic therapy in periodontal services, implant maintenance, occlusal evaluation and adjustment, and reevaluation of<br />

treatment and maintenance. Also includes periodontal healing, antimicrobials, antibiotics, and surgical and nonsurgical<br />

procedures.<br />
