EDU 119A Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault Training 8th-12th<br />

Overview and strategies for violence prevention education in the 8th-12 grades. Includes the analysis of social, gender,<br />

cultural and societal norms regarding sexual violence, dynamics, and laws and statutes regarding sexual violence in the<br />

United States and Arizona. Also includes best practices in sexual assault prevention curriculum, analysis of gender norms<br />

and violence, exploration and analysis of healthy versus destructive relationships, and analysis and application of media<br />

and gender messages.<br />

Provides students with an initial perspective of Education. Topics include: purposes of schooling and schools; effective<br />

schools; diversity and its effects on schools, teachers, and students; social problems affecting schools; comparative<br />

education; curriculum issues and controversies; and technology’s impact on schools and schooling. Also, philosophical,<br />

legal, and financial issues facing today’s schools; history of American education; and current trends in education reform.<br />

This class requires 30 hours of classroom experiential involvement in local schools.<br />
