AVIONICS TECHNICIAN TRAINING<br />

ATT 104 Operating Systems I, Communication and Navigation<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Topical discussion on typical communication and navigation systems, schematic usage, special tooling and equipment,<br />

switching, circuit protection, instrument panel features. Includes standard wiring practices of single and multiple flight<br />

instrumentation sources, location reporting equipment, as well as essential standard avionic basic flight devices.<br />

Information: Additional self-paced independent course study materials are required for non-certified Airframe and<br />

Powerplant students.<br />

Offered: Spring.<br />

ATT 105 NCATT-AET Exam Preparation<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Preparation for the National Center for Aircraft Technician Training-Aircraft Electronics Technician (NCATT-AET)<br />

examination. Includes general electrical theories and principals. Includes all the essential subject matter required to take<br />

the NCATT-AET test. Also includes safety, terminology phraseology, standard operating systems, standard practices,<br />

electrical theories, and common hand tooling selection.<br />

Offered: Fall.<br />

ATT 106 FCC Exam Preparation (PG)<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Preparation for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license examination. Includes general electrical theories,<br />

principals, safety, hazards, regulations, and terminology. Also includes additional exposure to outmoded systems and<br />

materials will be reviewed to compliment the test questions.<br />

Offered: May not be offered this year, check class schedule.<br />

ATT 200 Communication and Navigation Installation<br />

5 cr. hrs. 7 periods (3 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Installation of typical communication and navigation systems, schematic usage, special tooling and equipment, switching,<br />

circuit protection, and instrument panel modification and installation features. Includes standard wiring and installation<br />

practices of single and multiple flight instrumentation sources, location reporting equipment, and essential standard<br />

avionic basic flight devices.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ATT 103, 104.<br />

Information: Additional self-paced independent course study materials are required for non-certified Airframe and<br />

Powerplant students.<br />

ATT 201 Operating Systems II, GPS Navigation and Auto Pilot<br />

3 cr. hrs. 3 periods (3 lec.)<br />

Principles of operation and usage by flight crews demonstrated with flight simulators. Includes installation planning for<br />

electrical system requirements, typical mounting, wiring methods, connectors and antenna installation. Also includes preand<br />

post-installation verification of system integration, functional testing; troubleshooting on Global Positioning Systems<br />

(GPS) and Auto Pilot System<br />

Prerequisite(s): ATT 104, and 200.<br />

Information: Additional self-paced independent course study materials are required for non-certified Airframe and<br />

Powerplant students.<br />

ATT 202 GPS Navigation and Auto Pilot Installation<br />

5 cr. hrs. 7 periods (3 lec., 4 lab)<br />

Principles of operation and usage by flight crews (flight simulator). Includes installation planning for electrical system<br />

requirements, typical mounting, wiring methods, connectors and antenna installation. Includes pre- and post-installation<br />

verification of system integration, functional testing, troubleshooting on Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Auto Pilot<br />

Systems. Also includes an introduction to the installation of engine indicating instruments and their relationship to the<br />

instrument console.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ATT 104, and 201.<br />

Powerplant students.<br />

ATT 203 Avionics Test Equipment<br />

3 cr. hrs. 4 periods (2 lec., 2 lab)<br />

Overview of the evolution of the modern avionics systems, test equipment, operation of and training for test equipment.<br />

Includes functional testing of pitot static, transponder and altitude reporting units, Very High Frequency Omni-directional<br />

Range (VOR), Global Positioning System (GPS), and compass navigation devices installed in aircraft or functioning<br />

mockups. Also includes special tooling and test apparatuses, the handling of aircraft, safety to personnel and equipment<br />

undergoing testing.<br />

Prerequisite(s): ATT 104, and 200.<br />
