degree (associate of arts, associate of Business<br />

administration, associate of fine arts, and<br />

d. a “D” grade may fulfill support course requirements<br />

only in certificates, the associate of<br />

applied arts, and the associate of applied<br />

Science degrees, and only if those courses do not<br />

also meet general education requirements, or the<br />

Graduation with Honors<br />

Students who are graduating with a degree and who have<br />

completed 30 credit hours at <strong>Pima</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> may<br />

be granted honors designation if they meet certain grade<br />

point averages:<br />

• 3.500 to 3.749 grade point average = graduation<br />

with Honors<br />

• 3.750 to 3.899 grade point average = graduation<br />

with High Honors<br />

• 3.900 to 4.000 grade point average = graduation<br />

with Highest Honors<br />

these designations will be shown on diplomas and listed on<br />

the student's official transcripts.<br />

(<strong>Catalog</strong> Under Which A Student Graduates)<br />

Students maintaining continuous enrollment at any public<br />

arizona community college or university may graduate<br />

according to the requirements of the catalog in effect at the<br />

time of initial enrollment or according to the requirements<br />

of any catalog in effect during subsequent terms of continuous<br />

enrollment. Students may maintain continuous<br />

enrollment whether attending a public community college<br />

and/or public university in the State of arizona.<br />

the rules for maintaining continuous enrollment are:<br />

1. a semester in which a student earns course credit<br />

will be counted toward continuous enrollment.<br />

2. noncredit courses, audited courses, failed courses,<br />

or courses from which the student withdraws do not<br />

count toward continuous enrollment.<br />

3. failure to enroll in three consecutive regular (fall or<br />

spring) semesters breaks continuous enrollment for<br />

a student. Enrollment in the intervening summer<br />

terms may be used to maintain continuous enrollment<br />

status.<br />

if continuous enrollment is not maintained, the student<br />

must meet the requirements for graduation of the catalog in<br />

effect at the time they re-enroll or any subsequent catalog<br />

of continuous enrollment. Students enrolling or re-enrolled<br />

during a summer term must follow the following annual catalog<br />

or any subsequent catalog of continuous enrollment.<br />

student's major department. Departments may accept<br />

such coursework, reject it, or request that the student<br />

revalidate its substance. the eight-year limit on coursework<br />

applies except when program accreditation agencies<br />

limit the life of coursework to less than eight years.<br />

Departments may also require students to satisfy current<br />

major requirements rather than major requirements in<br />

earlier catalogs, when completing earlier requirements is<br />

no longer possible or educationally sound. There is no<br />

The Value of General Education<br />

general Education helps students to gain an understanding<br />

and appreciation of themselves; their history and culture;<br />

the history and culture of humanity; the principles and<br />

impact of mathematics, science and technology; and the<br />

principles of effective communication.<br />

the process of general education is designed to develop<br />

the following thinking skills: comparing, interpreting, summarizing,<br />

suggesting and testing hypotheses, imagining<br />

and creating, criticizing and evaluating, designing projects<br />

and investigations, gathering and organizing data, reasoning,<br />

problem solving, and decision making.<br />

Preparation for General Education<br />

to succeed in general education courses, students should<br />

have attained college-level preparedness in reading, writing<br />

and mathematics.<br />

the following list shows the minimum general Education<br />

credits needed for each type of degree program or certificate<br />

offered at <strong>Pima</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>. When considering<br />

which type of program is best for you, please note that if<br />

you intend to transfer to a university to complete a<br />

Bachelor of arts (Ba), Bachelor of fine arts (Bfa), or<br />

Bachelor of Science (BS), the associate of arts (aa),<br />

associate of Business administration (aBUS), associate of<br />

fine arts, and the associate of Science (aS) are the<br />

degrees designed for that purpose. the associate of<br />

general Studies, associate of applied arts (aaa), and the<br />

associate of applied Science (aaS) degrees require different<br />
